I’ve liked Gavin’s ability in the passing game as a tight end, because he’s got the speed to win down the seam against linebackers and safeties, and he has the height to win against smaller corners on the outside when he’s flexed out in the formation. Because of his physical traits and size, I’m not sure why he’s not getting more recruiting attention, but he’s a player who should turn some heads with college coaches during Bowl Week.

Gavin showed some good things throughout the showcase – mainly his ability to flex out wide and run routes against both linebackers and defensive backs. Gavin’s height allows him to win balls in the air against solo coverage, and he displayed good speed to separate against slower players in 1 on 1’s. I think he’s a vertical tight end who’s currently under the radar and could be a recruiting steal for a college on the next level.

Ramirez flexes out wide a larger Z and big slot receiver more often than not for Cox Mill, and that shows as he’s far more advanced as a pass-catcher than a blocker. But he’s a willing blocker, and that’s what colleges want from their tight ends. Ramirez played well in the fall but really rose in the spring, with a strong showing at the CFI Showcase in early May.
