We're already over halfway through the 2024 season in the blink of an eye and it's time to spotlight some of our ranked athletes. Here's an update on some of our ranked RBs who have performed well to this point of the season.

Air Force commit and 2025 Huntington RB [player_tooltip player_id='450988' first='Keegan' last='Sack'] has had a strong senior season for his new Highlanders' program and has solidified their backfield.

Sack is averaging 7.3 yards per carry and has totaled 674 yards and 11 touchdowns in six games this season. He's been their workhorse back this season as a versatile running back who can run between the tackles or bust it outside with the speed to break. Sack is explosive off the handoff and has shown good balance and footwork. It seems he's running the hardest that he's been in his career as a senior and is breaking and running through initial contact at a high level. Vision and patience are two more traits that Sack is executing well, and you can see why D1 programs were after his commitment.

Possibly the top two-way player in the state is 2025 Martinsburg RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='908988' first='Nick' last='Busky'] who can execute both duties at a very high level.

The scary part of his game this season is Busky may be playing linebacker at an even higher level compared to running back where he's ranked #2 in the state. He's earned First Team All-State honors in the past at LB so it's not surprising to see him playing so well on defense, but his potential at RB may be even higher. Busky looks like a D1 player in our eyes as we'll continue pounding the table for FCS programs to extend offers for his services. Busky's tough hardnosed playing style paired with clear D1 athleticism makes him a very intriguing prospect for how versatile he can be at the next level.

Jefferson got off to a slow start this season but 2025 RB [player_tooltip player_id='907161' first='Tay'Shaun' last='Roper'] and the Cougars are beginning to heat up down the stretch.

Roper is a very explosive athlete which we saw firsthand in May at the PRZ WV Combine where he earned RB MVP. He's continued that momentum into his senior season and is garnering more college interest as the season moves forward. Roper can hit top speed before he even crosses the line of scrimmage and has one of the best bursts in the state. He has phenomenal quickness and can consistently get to the corner and create space for himself. Roper will make a D2 program very happy and shouldn't be overlooked because of his size while still flying under the radar as a prospect.

2025 Princeton RB [player_tooltip player_id='907182' first='Marquel' last='Lowe'] has been steady this season for the Tigers through six games and is deserving of much more college looks.

Lowe has rushed for 600 yards and 12 touchdowns so far this season while averaging 11 yards per carry in many shortened games due to score. He'll be a stock riser after the season in our final 2025 rankings update and should be getting D1 attention. Lowe is one of the more complete backs in this class who can run east-west just as well as north-south while also being able to slide out to receiver and run routes. He has homerun speed and is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. He is also a real threat in the open field to make defenders miss and is a very hard runner who fights for every extra yard that he can get.

2025 Morgantown RB [player_tooltip player_id='854471' first='Aaron' last='Thomas'] is a must-offer running back prospect who also plays defense at a high level and is confusingly flying under the radar as a prospect.

Thomas has yet to post any college offers according to his X account and is deserving of an offer from every D2 program in the state. He may play in an unconventional Wing-T offense, but Thomas will excel just as well in a more modern offense at the college level too. His combination of physical between the tackles running and speed to break loose to the outside and in the open field makes him a well-rounded RB prospect that colleges need to get on. Thomas is a football player in every sense of the term and a very high-effort player who's going to give you 100% on every play. He'll almost assuredly have some college options at some point this year and is a surefire scholarship-level player.

[player_tooltip player_id='907165' first='Eli' last='Littlejohn'] continues to be a dynamic playmaker for the Nitro Wildcats this season as a runner and pass catcher in their explosive offense.

The 2025 RB is leading the team in all-purpose yards this season with 862 and is also leading in total touchdowns with 15. Littlejohn has some of the best footwork and change of direction ability in this class and may be undersized but is extremely explosive. He has tremendous burst and quickness and is very elusive in the open field. Littlejohn is very tough to tackle in space whose smaller size benefits him in that regard. He could very easily play slot receiver at the next level in addition to scatback and is a versatile athlete who has impressive playmaking ability.

The leading rusher in the state through seven games may very well be 2025 Wahama RB [player_tooltip player_id='907169' first='Connor' last='Lambert'].

He's putting up the video game number that we expected from him as the best athlete in Class A, and Lambert is putting an exclamation point on his high school career as a senior. He's averaging an incredible 18 yards per carry and has rushed for 1,239 yards and 25 touchdowns on just 68 carries while only playing in limited action due to scores. Lambert has generational speed at the small school level and is as elusive as he is fast. He can affect the game in every phase including in the passing game, defense, and as a returner on special teams. Lambert feels like the obvious choice for the Curt Warner Award as the state's top running back if he stays healthy regardless of the level of competition he's facing.

Another 2025 running back without a posted college offer that programs need to get in on is Parkersburg South's Eli Bartley.

He's putting up big numbers while even missing some time due to injury and has stepped right in as the starter in the backfield which we expected from him. Bartley is a fluid athlete who is just as agile as he is fast which makes him a dynamic playmaker for the Patriots. He has breakaway speed but pairs it with tremendous footwork and will run hard between the tackles as well. Bartley is an intriguing prospect who could play receiver at the next level as well which he's done at the high school level and is a versatile athlete deserving of more college looks.

Another top performer at the PRZ WV Combine earlier this year that colleges shouldn't overlook is 2025 Robert C. Byrd RB/DB [player_tooltip player_id='907164' first='Latrell' last='Jones'].

Jones has D2 ability and athleticism that will excel after spending some time in a college strength program for a couple of years. He's extremely quick with a great burst and has very good speed. Jones can line up in the slot with receiver potential at the next level as well and is just an athlete that you need to get the ball to in any way that you can. He's a very good outside-the-tackles runner with the speed to bend the corner consistently and get loose in the open field. Jones is still flying under the radar as a prospect but needs more college looks this season.
