ALVA 21, PERRY 20

It was 2A-2 over 2A-1 on Friday night as Alva took down Perry 21-20. The Goldbugs would bounce back from a week zero loss to Class A powerhouse Fairview by holding on to beat the Maroons. Both teams are ranked in the top ten in their respective classes and both teams expect to make some noise this season. For Alva specifically, it's a memorable night for head coach Ryne Wilson as Friday's win was his first as head coach of the Goldbugs. Wilson was hired by Alva early on in the summer and he's ready to take the Goldbugs to new heights in Class 2A-2 and a win over Perry is a great start.

BISHOP McGUINNESS 39, BISHOP KELLEY 25

It happened one week earlier than normal but it was "stick week" nonetheless and Bishop McGuinness went on the road and got a big 39-25 win over rival Bishop Kelley. It was the first win for head coach Ryan Stringer and a good bounce back win after the Irish fell to Deer Creek in week zero. This game was tied at 17 at halftime but McGuinness would take the lead in the second half after an interception return for a touchdown. That put McGuinness on top and they never gave the lead back. McGuinness lost the regular season meeting against Bishop Kelley last year but would beat the Comets in the 5A quarterfinals. For Bishop Kelley, they're hoping to see their rivals again this year to get the last laugh.

CARL ALBERT 49, MIDWEST CITY 0

It was a great start to the 2024 season for two-time defending champion Carl Albert as they begin their pursuit for a third consecutive state championship and their eighth title in nine years. The Titans opened the season with a 49-0 win over Midwest City and it was a methodical and dominant win from start to finish. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1187314' first='Daniel' last='Newton'] had a nice showing throughout the evening as he would dominate on the ground and he would also get the ball to Carl Albert's playmakers at wide receiver. And Carl Albert's defense shut down the Bombers as Midwest City's offensive woes continued. After being shut out by Piedmont in week zero, they were held off the scoreboard again in week one.

CASCIA HALL 45, REJOICE CHRISTIAN 14

Cascia Hall would have to rally in week zero and survive a last second field goal to beat Holland Hall 29-28. They would come out and dominate from the start in week one, rolling to a 45-14 win over a very good Rejoice Christian team. But on Friday night, Cascia Hall was simply at another level and their offense was clicking on all cylinders. The running game was lights out with senior [player_tooltip player_id='916762' first='Owen' last='Darby'] and junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1083187' first='Barrett' last='Mullen'] led a passing attack that could not be slowed down. The Commandos will go on the road (roughly five miles) in week two against 2A-1 contender Metro Christian while Rejoice Christian will have the week off before hosting Christian Heritage in week three.

DEER CREEK 38, EDMOND MEMORIAL 24

The final score is definitely not indicative of how close this game was as Deer Creek got a huge win on the road against Edmond Memorial. The Antlers would beat the Bulldogs 38-24 but they actually trailed by ten points early on in the fourth quarter. Trailing 24-14, the Antlers absolutely dominated the final ten minutes, scoring 24 unanswered points to run away with the victory. The QB-WR duo of [player_tooltip player_id='242231' first='Grady' last='Adamson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='894347' first='Mason' last='Smith'] could not be stopped as the Antlers rolled to the week one victory. Defensively, the Antlers had a breakout performance from newcomer [player_tooltip player_id='1109322' first='Zyhir' last='Fisher'] as he was an absolute menace in the secondary. Deer Creek will now have their home opener against Norman North while Edmond Memorial hosts rival Edmond North.

DEL CITY 33, BOOKER T WASHINGTON 0

After getting shut out 35-0 in the season opener against Edmond Memorial, Del City went on the road and had a complete bounce back victory over Booker T Washington. They would shut out the Hornets 33-0 on Friday night and it was a statement to the rest of Class 5A that the Eagles were still going to be one of the top teams in this class. It was a balanced attack from start to finish as the offense absolutely rolled. From one week to the next, Del City made a clearly significant jump as it looked like they could do just about whatever they wanted on the offensive side of the ball. Now, they'll take the week off before their final non-district game against Midwest City while BTW will face Central in week two.

EDMOND NORTH 41, EDMOND SANTA FE 35

In one of the surprising rivalry game outcomes of week one, we saw Edmond North win a high-scoring affair against Edmond Santa Fe 41-35. The Huskies are now 2-0 and they are clearly a much-improved team as we head further into the 2024 season. For Edmond Santa Fe, it's now time to bounce back after an 0-2 start. Edmond North had a strong performance offensively and while it was a very balanced attack, we have to tip our caps to the rushing attack for the Huskies. They would run for more than 250 yards as a team. The Huskies will now face another Edlam rival in Edmond Memorial while Edmond Santa Fe will look to avoid an 0-3 start to this season when they face off with Norman in week two.

FAIRVIEW 35, KINGSTON 28

Fairview's winning streak was up against the ropes on the road in Kingston on Friday night. But the two-time Class A state champions would prevail and extend that winning streak to 32 consecutive victories. Fairview would beat Kingston 35-28 and they did so behind a game-winning touchdown pass with less than a minute to play. This was a game in which Fairview would trail 28-21 but their star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='379243' first='Jax' last='Bernard'] would help lead them to the victory to make sure that winning streak remained in tact and give another example of why he's one of the very best football players in Oklahoma. This was a big win for Fairview on the road and will give them even more momentum.

FORT GIBSON 37, BERRYHILL 36 (OT)

There were a handful of overtime classics in week one and this one might have flown under the radar but it was a big result nonetheless. Fort Gibson would knock off Berryhill 37-36 in overtime and it was a big win for the Tigers. Fort Gibson almost won this game in regulation after scoring the game-tying touchdown with 1:29 left but Berryhill would block the extra point and we had overtime. Berryhill would score first and Fort Gibson responded. Instead of attempting an extra point for double overtime, the Tigers went for the win and they got it. Fort Gibson now has a rivalry showdown with Hilldale while Berryhill will look to bounce back after a tough 0-2 start against really good 4A competition.

JONES 33, KIEFER 0

This was a match-up featuring two teams that suffered heartbreaking losses in the Class 2A semifinals a year ago. And Jones made quite the statement in week one by beating Kiefer and finishing off a shutout with a 33-0 victory. The Longhorns are very clearly one of the top teams in Class 2A-1. We knew that coming into the season but this was a significant win for Jones as the Longhorns have gotten off to a great start and now they'll host a 4A ranked team in Bethany. After that, they'll take the week off before entering arguably the toughest district in Class 2A-1. For Kiefer, they'll look to bounce back from the week one loss but it'll be tough as they go on the road to face 2A-2's top-ranked Vian.

LINCOLN CHRISTIAN 28, HERITAGE HALL 20

It doesn't get much better than a state championship rematch and number one versus number two in Class 3A. That's what we got to see as top-ranked Lincoln Christian went on the road and took down second-ranked Heritage Hall 28-20 in a rematch of last year's state title game. Like last year's title clash, the Chargers jumped out early and led this one 20-7 at halftime. But the Bulldogs never felt out of it and limited mistakes in the second half and their defense was absolutely lights out in the final two quarters. The Lincoln Christian defense was the story of Friday night's showdown. For a complete breakdown on the game, check out our Top Performers article & our Game Highlights as well!

NORMAN 37, NORMAN NORTH 27

In the annual rivalry game between Norman and Norman North, the Tigers absolutely dominated on the offensive side of the ball and got a strong 37-27 victory over Norman North. The Tigers would snap a four-game losing streak in the CrossTown Clash in the process and senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='211962' first='Phoenix' last='Murphy'] had a game to remember. He set a school record for passing yards in a game and the Tigers could not be stopped on the offensive side of the ball. The Tigers have a chance to make a lot of noise in Class 6A-1 this season if their offense plays like it did in week one. They go on the road to face Edmond Santa Fe in week two while Norman North will try to bounce back at Deer Creek Friday night.

OWASSO 42, JENKS 24

For the second straight week, the Owasso Rams played the top-ranked team in Class 6A-1. And for the second straight week, the Owasso Rams beat that team. So needless to say, on Sunday night when the new rankings come out, the Rams will be atop those 6A-1 rankings. The Rams went on the road and had another impressive victory, this time against Jenks, winning 42-24. This game was tied at 14 at halftime but the Rams completely dominated the final two quarters, outscoring the Trojans 28-10 in the second half. The Rams are absolutely dominant on both sides of the line of scrimmage and it showed again Friday night. Owasso goes to Sand Springs next while Jenks has their rivalry clash with Union in week two.

PAULS VALLEY 31, DAVIS 14

Pauls Valley is off to a 2-0 start this season following a strong 31-14 victory over Davis on Friday night. The Panthers would put the ball in the hands of their superstar [player_tooltip player_id='353410' first='Caden' last='Knighten'] and he responded by producing in just about every way that he could. He had nearly 300 yards of total offense and accounted for all four of Pauls Valley's touchdowns. He was a threat in the run game and as a pass catcher and Davis had no answer for the Baylor commit. The Panthers will have a bye week before a week three showdown at home against a 4A ranked team in Weatherford. For Davis, they look to bounce back but they have a brutal non-district slate and they go on the road to face Sulphur in week two.

POTEAU 16, McALESTER 14

You could tell that it was week one and despite this being the second game for each team, it wasn't the prettiest game. Poteau would knock off McAlester 16-14 and for the Pirates, it was a very strong bounce back victory after losing their season opener over in Arkansas in week zero. It was a low-scoring affair from start to finish and both teams would struggle with turnovers. McAlester had a few chances to win this game but turnovers would shoot them in the foot. The Buffaloes now try to rebound in week two with a rivalry game against an Ada team that just lost in a surprising blowout to Ardmore. Poteau will now host NOAH in week two and it will also be their final non-district clash.

SOUTHMOORE 17, WESTMOORE 14

It might have flown under the radar to start week one but there's no doubt that the SouthWest Showdown between Southmoore and Westmoore would be a memorable game. Southmoore snapped several losing streaks as they would knock off the Jaguars 17-14. Southmoore would get their first win over Westmoore since 2015. And the 17-14 victory was also Southmoore's first win since week one of the 2022 season. A 19-game losing streak was snapped and it looks like Southmoore is starting to head in the correct direction. They are 1-0 on the season and will focus their attention to another rival in Moore in week two. With the drop down to Class 6A-2, Southmoore could definitely be a team to watch.

STILLWATER 36, UNION 35 (OT)

For the second straight week, Union needed late game heroics to force overtime. But after beating Bentonville on the road in OT last week, the Redhawks came up short in week one against Stillwater. It was the season opener for the Pioneers and they got out to a fast start. Stillwater led 21-0 and carried that lead all the way to the fourth quarter. Union would score 28 points in the final quarter, scoring on the final play of regulation to force overtime. They would then score first but Stillwater would answer. And instead of kicking the extra point, the Pioneers went for the win and quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='655747' first='Mason' last='Schubert'] rumbled into the end zone for the game-winning two-point conversion and a statement victory.

STROUD 21, CHANDLER 14

In another rivalry showdown, we saw Stroud take down Chandler 21-14 in the season opener for both teams. The Tigers would snap a four game losing streak to the Lions and this could give Stroud a ton of momentum heading into the rest of the 2024 season. Stroud is one of those teams that bring back the majority of their starters and they could be a dark horse to make a run in Class 2A-2. They'll return home for the home opener against Pawnee in week two. For Chandler, they face a very difficult non-district schedule and will host Lone Grove in week two before going on the road to face Clinton in week three. The Lions will certainly test themselves before going into district play in late September.

TUTTLE 21, NEWCASTLE 0

After needing some late game heroics in week zero, Tuttle came out and just dominated from start to finish in a 21-0 win on the road against Newcastle. After two weeks, it's safe to say that the Tigers are a legitimate threat in the Class 4A title picture. They have some outstanding athletes on offense, led by senior [player_tooltip player_id='215570' first='Brady' last='Mcadoo'] as he had another stellar performance on Friday night. But the Tigers completely contained Newcastle's offense as Tuttle would finish off an impressive shutout victory. After two tough road games, Tuttle finally gets their home opener in week two against Noble. For Newcastle, it's time to bounce back but they continue their gauntlet non-district slate against defending champ Blanchard.

WASHINGTON 27, SULPHUR 24 (2 OT)

We saved the best for last. Not really, these were alphabetical but it's a nice coincidence. Washington has now won 32 consecutive games after surviving a 27-24 double overtime classic with Sulphur. The Bulldogs had multiple chances to end Washington's winning streak but they couldn't get it done. And after Sulphur would kick a field goal to start the second overtime, it was freshman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] finding [player_tooltip player_id='353411' first='Nate' last='Roberts'] for the game-winning touchdown to push the streak to 32 straight. Those two were outstanding all night so it's no surprise that the game-winning play came from that connection.
