And we have not slowed down in August. The past week has been all about the individuals to watch this season. From our Preseason All State teams to comeback players and freshmen to watch and much more, we have you covered. In this post, it's time to continue our class by class previews. Again, this is all put together to get you ready for the 2024 season. Davis AT Pauls Valley</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In week one, Davis hits the road for a monster non-district game with Pauls Valley. In fact, Davis might test themselves more than any other team in Class 2A-2 when it comes to the non-district slate. The Wolves are hungry to get back to contending for state championships year in and year out, similar to what we saw a decade ago. They'll test themselves in the non-district slate against several of the top teams in Class 3A. Pauls Valley is one of those teams and they have one of the top running backs in the state, regardless of class. If Davis is able to go on the road here and get a win over Pauls Valley, it'll be time to really start considering that Davis is the team to beat in this class. Get ready for the rushing yards to be racked up in this one. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>October 4th - Davis AT Beggs</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While Davis is looking to return to contending for state championships, Beggs is looking to do the same and this Beggs squad is very hungry to start the 2024 season. They had a rare season of missing the playoffs last year and are looking to start fresh this fall. Beggs has some legitimate star power on their side of the match-up while Davis brings in their rushing attack that will give everyone in 2A-2 some problems this season. On paper, this looks like a match-up featuring the top two teams in this district. The district title could be on the line here but both teams will have a lot of work to do afterwards. By the time we reach the end of this one, we'll be at the halfway point of the regular season and we'll know a lot more about each team. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>October 11th - Adair AT Kansas</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This is the first of two big games in week six featuring two ranked teams in our preseason rankings and this might be the biggest district contest in 2A-2 this season. Adair and Kansas are numbers three and four respectively and fellow district foe Colcord is also in the top five of those rankings. So this district is an absolute gauntlet and it feels like almost every week we're going to see a marquee match-up come out of this district. But for now, we're giving the nod to Adair and Kansas as Adair won a district title last season and brings back almost everyone from last year's team. Meanwhile Kansas looks like a team that can not only compete for the district title, but they could contend for the state title with the guys they have coming back. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>October 11th - Alva AT Stroud</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Also in week six, Stroud will host Alva and this is another game that could very well decide the district championship. These teams are the top two teams in our 2A-2 preseason rankings so on paper, it goes without saying that the district title could be on the line here. Stroud is coming into this season with high expectations when you consider they have the majority of their starters returning and some serious firepower coming back on offense. Alva is one of the more intriguing teams to watch this season in 2A-2. The Goldbugs had a strong 2024 season and appear to be one of the top teams in this class. But they had a rare offseason move when they named a new head coach in June. So it's hard to know what to expect from them. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>October 17th - Valliant AT Vian</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On a Fall Break Thursday night, we'll see the top team in our 2A-2 preseason rankings hosting perhaps their toughest district contest. Vian hosts Valliant in week seven and the Wolverines are looking to contend for the state championship. It starts in the regular season and while Valliant comes into this year after a losing season last fall, this is a team that has several big names on the recruiting trail. Vian is the team to beat in Class 2A-2 heading into this season but by the time week seven rolls around, Valliant could find themselves in the top ten as well and will give the Wolverines everything they want. The Bulldogs will have a first year head coach but one of the top running backs in the class while Vian is ready to gun for the gold ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2024 SEASON OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's a new era for Class 2A football as we head into the 2024 football season and beyond. The class has now been split into two divisions and for Class 2A-2, we see a class that is headlined by traditional powers. You look at the top two teams with Vian and Davis respectively and you have a lot of wins over the last 15 years between these two teams. And now that they aren't running into fellow 2A powerhouses like Washington, Metro Christian or Millwood, it opens the door to truly contending for that state championship. But this class is much deeper than those top two teams. We mentioned that gauntlet of a district, featuring Adair, Kansas and Colcord, who are all ranked in the top five of our preseason rankings. And don't forget Salina and Wyandotte, who are also in that district and can make some noise. Only four teams can make it to the playoffs from this district so there will be a good football team on the outside looking in. While that district will get a lot of the headlines this season, don't overlook some of the other teams and district slates. Other teams like Alva, Beggs and Stroud have all had recent success and it wouldn't be surprising to see any of them end the season in the top five. There are other teams like Holdenville and Meeker that might be flying under the radar right now but if you take them lightly, they'll surprise you. Another big storyline is Casady officially entering the OSSAA. The Cyclones are in Class 2A-2 after decades of playing in the SPC. Holland Hall made that transition about a decade ago and they found instant success. Casady looks to follow that blueprint, starting in 2024. This is a new class but it should be a very fun class to watch as it unfolds. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
