The 2023 season was a wild roller coaster ride for the Jenks Trojans. They began the season with a 2-3 record, losing at home to Edmond Santa Fe and Westmoore in the final minutes. The Trojans found themselves in territory that they haven't occupied very often. And yet, there was no sense of panic. Jenks would win four in a row and go into the playoffs at 6-4 and still, no panic. The Trojans would avenge their week zero loss to Santa Fe by beating them in the quarterfinals. They would follow that up with a dramatic semifinal win over rival Union, sweeping the Redhawks in their two meetings in 2023. After trailing 21-0, Jenks would come back to win 33-27, punching their ticket to Edmond and another meeting with the Bixby Spartans. Bixby has become the new kings of Oklahoma high school football and they held onto the crown for another year, beating Jenks 49-21 in the title game. But as we look ahead to the 2024 season, the Trojans are more determined than ever to take back that crown. They're off the roller coaster that was the 2023 season and ready to go on another ride to the mountaintop in Oklahoma.

2024 OUTLOOK

The Trojans return about half of their starters from last year's team but they also have had quite a few new additions that will provide a massive impact on how the 2024 season is played out. And the starters that Jenks returns are some of the more impactful players from last year's team. On offense, they bring back five starters, including the quarterback and running back and several skill pieces. The offensive line will have to come together but they are confident in that position, especially with some new faces on that side of the line of scrimmage. On defense, six starters return and they have a good mix throughout the three levels of the defense. And again, some new additions to the roster will provide Jenks with both skill and depth on both sides of the ball. And we'll learn just how serious the Trojans are by the time October 1st gets here. The September schedule is a brutal one as the second ranked Trojans will play the other three teams in the 6A-1 top four in September alone. Now let's be transparent, on paper, the Trojans look like the best team in the state and they certainly have a case for being the favorite in 6A-1. But as we've seen in sports, the best team on paper doesn't always win. The Trojans are going to have to earn it this season but they certainly have the firepower to make a run at the state championship. And with that state title, they would have 19 in school history, putting them into a tie with Ada for the most in state history.

Jenks senior [player_tooltip player_id='294445' first='Cash' last='Jacobsen'] is one of the top rated defensive linemen in the state's 2025 class. And there's no doubt that he'll be the name to watch on the line of scrimmage on defense with how much impact he has now that he's healthy. But Jacobsen is also going to be playing on both sides as the Trojans are looking for Jacobsen to play on the offensive line too. And he had a good spring, lining up primarily at left tackle. As we mentioned earlier, the Trojans need the offensive line to come together and having a force like Jacobsen stepping up should help them, especially early on in the season. Jacobsen could be one of the top two-way linemen in 6A-1 this fall.

The Trojans will have quite a few newcomers this fall but senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='456293' first='Kayleb' last='Barnett'] could be the biggest addition in the playmaking category. The 2025 product is the reigning 6A state champion in the 100M dash and that speed is absolutely lethal in the open field. After watching him this offseason in 7v7 and then with the Trojans in the spring, we're convinced that he's going to be one of the top offensive threats in 6A-1. The Trojans have speed everywhere on the offensive side of the ball but Barnett is at the very top of that list. When he gets the ball in the open field, he leaves defenders on skates and is looking to have a monster senior season in 2024.

Jenks junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] is coming into this season expecting to be one of the best players in Oklahoma this fall. He was one of the best last season as he accounted for over 2,000 yards of total offense in the Jenks running and passing game. Jones has been outstanding to watch in his first two seasons of high school football. He was our pick for Freshman Of The Year in 2022. He earned All State 2nd Team honors last season. And he's going into this season as one of the players to watch in the PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year race. Jones has been the top overall prospect in the state's 2026 class for a while now and he doesn't intend to let go of the top spot anytime soon.

Jenks senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='598834' first='Owen' last='Jones'] will be one of the more intriguing players in the state this fall. Jones is a good quarterback and has shown improvement over the last 12 months. But there is no doubt that he has a wealth of skill players around him so he should put up some monster numbers this fall. We could see him emerge as one of the top producing quarterbacks, not only in 6A-1 but in the state with the talent they have at the skill positions. The senior quarterback has the keys to this offense and they'll be going very fast from the start of the season. This could be a very big 2024 campaign for Jones and the revamped Jenks offense.

Another new name to put on the Jenks uniform is 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='467408' first='Ryley' last='Kester'] along the offensive line. Just like Jones, Kester has been considered one of the top guys in the state's 2026 class even before his freshman year began in 2022. Kester moves over to Jenks after dominating the last two years at Sand Springs. And when we looked at this Jenks team on paper, the one area where there could be concern was the offensive line. That's not as much of a concern anymore when you throw Kester into the lineup. Every time we've seen Kester in person, he impresses and he's another piece to a Jenks offense that could very well be one of the best units in the state this season.

Jenks senior [player_tooltip player_id='1096341' first='Sam' last='Stone'] earned All State 3rd Team honors last season and is one of the top defenders returning in 6A-1 football this season. Stone was near the top of the charts in terms of tackles and he's a defender that brings a lot of versatility to the Jenks defense. He is comfortable in several different spots on the field and that gives defensive coordinator Adam Gaylor a lot of room to work with and allow other players to step up. Stone is definitely going to be a name to watch this season as he looks to emerge not only as one of 6A-1's top defenders but one of the best in the state. It won't be surprising if Stone earns All State honors once again this fall.

Jenks sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='478124' first='Semaj' last='Stanford'] is coming off a freshman season that was about as good as it could be. He was one of the team's leading tacklers, earned All State 3rd Team honors and was also named our Freshman Of The Year. And Stanford has been busy this offseason, seeing his recruitment absolutely explode as he continues to be considered the top overall prospect in the state's 2027 class. That's really the way it has been from the beginning for Stanford. Before he even began his freshman year, the Jenks coaches were excited about his potential and the hype surrounding him was real. He backed all of it up with his play on the field last year and wants more.

In week two, the Trojans will go on the road to face the Redhawks in their annual rivalry game. Jenks beat Union in the regular season and then ended their season in a dramatic semifinal victory, sending Union home and the Trojans to Edmond. You don't need much to hype up this match-up and as we learned last year, you can throw the record books out when these two play.
Sept. 27th - AT Bixby
- The September gauntlet ends as district play begins. Jenks hits the road to face Bixby in a match-up of the top two teams in our preseason rankings and a rematch of last year's state title game. After playing Bixby in the final game of the regular season in the last two years, Jenks will open up district play against the Spartans. There's no doubt that Bixby has taken the crown as the new king of Oklahoma high school football and the Trojans are hungry to take it back.
Oct. 4th - Norman
Oct. 11th - AT Mustang
- In week six, the Trojans will hit the road for a district clash with new foe Mustang. Jenks and Mustang met in the playoffs three times from 2019-2022 with the last two meetings being decided by a combined ten points. The Broncos have a solid roster and they are full of young talent that are hungry to lead them to an upset win.
While it's true that the Trojans will have plenty of new faces on the field, they'll also have some on the sidelines. Jenks made several changes to the coaching staff this offseason and the first one definitely grabbed headlines back in February. Jay Wilkinson is returning to Oklahoma after several years in Arkansas as the offensive coordinator at Fayetteville. Wilkinson has been a successful head coach in Oklahoma but has a reputation for being one of the best offensive coordinators in the state. And with the offensive playmakers the Trojans will have on the field and Wilkinson pulling the strings, excitement is high. The Trojans also made two additional hires when former McLain head coach Willie Ponder joined the staff, along with former Union and OSU running back Jeremy Smith. Smith was most recently with Broken Arrow last season and Union before that. So as we mentioned before, the Trojans have loaded up to make a run at title #19.
