The Elite V Showcase featured some of New York City’s top talent, as well as elite players from other areas just outside of the city. Part 1 of my top performers features some excellent players from all over New York. Check out who made a statement to start an exciting offseason. Part Two will be posted tomorrow along with honorable mentions from a talented group of players.
Thomas reminded everyone why he led the PSAL in rushing yards last season. The speedster had a second gear that blew away the linebackers attempting to cover him. When running routes, Thomas constantly sprinted past defenders and hauled in passes downfield. In open space was where the Lehman product was most dangerous. He juked past linebackers effortlessly. He showed off multiple moves including his lethal change of direction that allowed him to win so many reps.
The St Anthony’s product had some of the more impressive routes and grabs in this event. He had one of the best catches of the entire showcase. Russo was able to adjust his body and make a catch falling down with a defender contesting him. His ball-tracking ability was elite during the 1v1 portion. He ran a variety of routes that resulted in easy catches. His short routes were quick and precise, as he was fast out of his breaks and was able to haul in the pass. Russo’s deep route running was also on display, he showed the breakaway speed to burn defenders. With several seniors graduating, Russo will be one of the Friar’s top targets next fall.

Solomon De Coteau
Solomon De Coteau
On his home turf, Solomon De Coteau had a big-time performance. He was an All-City selection after a breakout junior year and it was evident why he earned those honors. De Coteau was one of the top route runners at this event. He ran smooth and precise routes which had his defenders lost. He arguably created the most separation out of any receiver at the event. I loved his acceleration downfield and I think his speed will allow him to make a ton of big plays this fall for Lincoln.
The defensive back from Iona Prep had some of the best reps of the day. Galloway was very physical and didn’t back down from some of the top receivers at the event. He excelled in press coverage where he gave receivers a difficult time to get off the line of scrimmage. Galloway was disrupting routes and was fast out of his breaks. Just like so many Iona Prep defensive backs, Galloway looked polished and brought amazing intensity. I expect him to step up as a leader for the Iona Prep defense this fall.

Chaminade’s top receiver made a statement at the Elite V Showcase. He ended up being one of the top receivers after dominating the 1v1 portion of the event. Dietrich is an elite route runner with fantastic hands. He’s gotten visibly stronger and faster and it showed against stellar competition. He had some excellent releases off the line of scrimmage as well. He’s proving to be one of the most explosive receivers in the highly talented NYCHSFL AAA division.

The product from Carmel had some of the best tools at the event. He has great size at 6 ‘3 and 265 pounds. And with this amazing size, he had great technical skills. He used his hands very well to gain leverage and blow by his defender. Micah-Mercer showcased his amazing burst and agility to win his one-on-one matchups. I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts together an eye-opening junior season after an impressive sophomore campaign.

Gamble was one of the most hyped up prospects coming into the event and he lived up to the expectations. According to Catapult Sports, they had Gamble marked as the fastest player at the camp. He was clocked at an incredible 23.02 MPH which was the top speed at this camp. He was mainly a running back in his high school season but at the camp, he was with WRs. Gamble took most of his reps at receiver but he showed his versatility when lining up as a defensive back. He was able to make plays on both sides of the ball and was one of the top playmakers at the event.
With the entire camp watching the final rep, it was Malespin coming away with an impressive win over one of the top linemen in New York. Malespin has a quick first step and possesses an extremely strong lower half. His overall strength was on complete display after stonewalling some of the strongest linemen in the city. Malespin is skilled and started on Iona Prep just as a sophomore. He will be the Gaels starting center this fall. He will play a big role for an offense that is loaded. Malespin will also be in attendance at the Prep Redzone camp this weekend.
