Continue ReadingAs we head into the 2024 high school football offseason, it is time for some rankings updates! After already covering the 2025 and 2026 classes, we have now officially released our initial Top 75 rankings for the class of 2027. With that being said, I will be taking the next week or so to break down these rankings by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I have now turned my attention to the defensive side of the ball. With the defensive linemen and linebackers out of the way, here are our top defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky.
Jordan Haskins Jordan Haskins 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Bryan Station | 2027 State KY is a player that has been high on our radar for a while now and continued to impress this past season. Haskins lines up at corner where he is very reliable in zone coverage. He does a great job of reading route combinations and break on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Haskins finished this past season with one interception and several pass breakups in 14 games. He also showed the ability to provide support against the run, finishing the season with 37 tackles and three tackles for loss. Haskins currently holds offers from Akron, Ohio, and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come his way as he is a true Division I caliber prospect.
Cohen Finley Cohen Finley 6’2″ | 170 lbs | DB Pulaski County | 2027 State KY is another defensive back that had a very impressive freshman year. Finley lines up at safety where he is a true ball hawk in pass coverage. He does a great job of reading the quarterback and breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. Finley finished this past season with three interceptions in 12 games. He also showed the ability to fill the lane and make tackles against the run, finishing the season with 95 tackles and two tackles for loss. Finley also finished the year with one sack and a receiving touchdown. Cohen doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is definitely a player to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
Sekou Kamara Sekou Kamara 5’10” | 145 lbs | DB Trinity | 2027 State KY is a player that jumped onto our radar with an impressive freshman year. He lined up at corner where he was very impressive in man coverage. Kamara does a great job of opening up and running with receivers to mirror their routes. When the ball is thrown his way, he does a great job of breaking with perfect timing to make a play. Kamara finished this past season with two interceptions in 15 games. He has also shown the ability to provide support against the run, finishing his freshman year with 59 tackles and four tackles for loss. Kamara doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should be a player to watch going into his sophomore year.
Wyatt Peters Wyatt Peters 6’0″ | 160 lbs | DB Woodford County | 2027 State KY is another defensive back that jumped onto our radar with a strong freshman season. He lines up at safety where he is very impressive against the run. Peters reads the play quickly and comes downhill to fill the lane and get to the ball carrier to make the tackle in the open field. He finished this past season with 38 tackles and one tackle for loss in 10 games. Peters also proved to be reliable in pass coverage, coming away with two interceptions and returning one of them for a touchdown this past season. Wyatt doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.
