We are deep in the offseason here in Wisconsin. I am also deep in the update of the rankings. While scrolling through the current rankings it quickly became clear that there are certain position groups in the different recruiting classes that seem to have special talent and depth within them. This article serves as the first in a series where we will dive into those rare position groups that have several potential D1 athletes in them. We start with a look at the 2025 QB Class. A group with multiple athletes who already have D1 offers, along with others who could join them. This group is special, and maybe the best collection of top end talent and overall depth that we have seen here in Wisconsin. Let’s get to know these stud signal callers.
One of the best QBs in the group is Vance Holtz Vance Holtz 6’2″ | 210 lbs | QB Arrowhead | 2025 State WI out of Arrowhead HS. Vance fits the mold of today’s QB. Good size at 6’2″ 200 lbs and the ability to win with his arm or his legs. The arm is the focal point, though. Vance has developed clean mechanics, feet that move with the eyes. He uses his whole body to generate power when he needs to get behind the ball to beat a closing window or push the ball down the field. Vance is able to drive the ball on deep out routes, and he has the touch to drop it in a bucket over his receiver’s shoulder right in stride. The junior is a poised passer with plenty of experience in big games. Holtz also has the mobility and elusiveness in the pocket to buy time, and when it is there we do see him keep it himself. The athleticism is there to hurt defenses. Check out the tape on the prototypical passer.

The QB1 race is going to be a tight one. Catholic Memorial’s MJ Mitchell MJ Mitchell 6’1″ | 175 lbs | QB Catholic Memorial | 2025 State WI has put himself in the middle of it following his first year as the varsity starter. MJ is now listed at 6’2″ 185 lbs, with plenty of room to continue to fill out his frame. The tape shows a player where the sky is the limit. The arm talent is so impressive, yet natural. The ball jumps out of his hand when he goes deep. Over and over we see that he has the ability to drop the ball on a dime 50 yards downfield. Both the deep accuracy and arm strength are there in spades. MJ is also able to drive the ball on a rope in the short to intermediate levels with pinpoint accuracy. Where Mitchell further separates himself is on the ground. He can break a game open on any carry with his quick twitch agility that leaves deadeners tackling air. The long speed is there to crate the big plays. His vision with the ball is on par with any RB in the state as well. Check out the tape below. The D1 offers have started coming in. Plenty more are sure to follow.

Next up we have a great example of a top pocket passer type of QB. Brady has good size to stand tall in the pocket, scan the field, and find his mismatches. He is quick to process where he should go with the ball. The mechanics from his feet to his arm are well coached, and give him the ability to get the ball out the instant he wants to. Looking at the arm, Brady has the ability to get the ball to any spot on the field. He can let it rip deep downfield as his man gets behind the defense. He can drive it between defenders in the intermediate range of the field. Despite the power, Brady always has the ability to control where the ball is going to be placed. His pinpoint accuracy is on par or better than everyone in WI. Brady is a QB who can stand in the pocket, go through his progressions, and place the ball exactly where he wants it. Give him a look if you haven’t.

This Class is so special when it comes to QBs. Another impressive athlete to know is Elk Mound’s Logan Jerome Logan Jerome 6’5″ | 200 lbs | QB Elk Mound | 2025 State WI . The junior looks the part of a college QB at 6’5″ 200 lbs. Logan has an arm to match. He has the arm strength to be able to attack all three levels of the field, and he can do it from the pocket or on the move. Logan does a great job with his pocket awareness and ability to slide away from pressure. He doesn’t break the pocket because of pressure. Instead we see him slide, keep his eyes downfield, and is able to reset and throw quickly. We also see that he is able to throw without getting his feet set and from awkward angles. There are a lot of natural, strong tools to mold here.
There are a lot of similar building blocks and traits between these top prospects. Another athlete with them is Grayson McCain Grayson McCain 6’4″ | 200 lbs | QB Brown Deer | 2025 State WI . The size is there in the 6’4″ 200 lbs junior. The arm strength is college quality. I have seen him on tape and at camps. The ball jumps out of his hand so effortlessly. Even when the play breaks down and he is scrambling around and directing traffic the QB is able to let it rip. The poise stands out on tape too. Grayson can beat defenses in rhythm, when pressured, or when the play breaks down. Make sure you have this kid on your radars.

Grant led Stevens Point to a great 2023 season. That put him on the map, and has me excited for what is to come. Grant looks the part at 6’4″ 190 lbs. The tape shows a QB that understands how to place the ball depending on the defense. Grant can fire it in between the LB and CB, drop it over his man’s shoulder downfield in stride, or lob it into the end zone where his man can go up and get it. It is more than just accuracy to every level of the field. It is being able to pinpoint where his man has the best chance to get it. That accuracy along with smart decision making allows him to carve up defenses. Keep an eye on him this year.

Joey might not fit the mold of a prototypical passer at 6′ 185 lbs, but however looks past that and dives into the talent is going to get a stud. Kallay is a technician at the position. That technique is what allows him to carve up defenses He is able to create surprising power to push the ball deep, and can throw it on a frozen rope deep up the seam. Kallay pairs that arm strength with excellent accuracy. Joey is razor sharp with his ball placement, and it allows for a lot of big plays after the catch because he hits his man in stride. The junior made a big jump from ’22 to ’23. I’m excited for this next bump in development. Don’t overlook this kid. He is going to be a big riser.
