Joey Kallay out of Franklin HS was the very quick choice for the winner category as I went through each athlete. The Franklin product was a three year varsity starter, took his team to the playoffs every season and even led them to a State Championship appearance as a junior. Overall, Kallay delivered a 31-5 overall record. During that time Joey and Franklin earned 2 conference championships as well. However you want to break it down the senior QB wins, finds ways to wins, and does it consistently. I’m excited to watch him at the next level.

Joey put together one of the top seasons as a passer. The fact he did all his damage while primarily playing as a pocket passer is rare. As you can see, Joey was the entire passing game as he led his team well into the playoffs. Even more impressive, the senior signal caller was responsible for over 60% of the team’s yards and it all came from his right arm. Same goes for the team’s entire TD count. Franklin’s offense leaned heavily on the senior QB and he delivered with a productive and efficient season.

Stats: 11/15, 316 Yards, 4 TDs
Joey Kallay was a surgical downfield passer in Week 8 and it led to him putting up over 300 yards with just 11 completions. The senior QB let his arm strength and accuracy/touch dominate the night as he easily dropped dimes over the defense to his open receivers. Kallay also showed a lot of poise throughout his highlight reel. Whether it was delivering with a man in his face, scrambling around but still finding a receiver instead of abandoning the play. The senior is quickly becoming one of the top uncommitted senior signal callers in the state. Give the tape a watch.

One of the best passers in the state is off to a great start in 2024. The senior out of Franklin is proving every week that he is going to be a steal for a program. The arm talent gives the Saber offense the opportunity to attack short, intermediate, and deep downfield thanks to both is arm strength and pinpoint accuracy. The accuracy is the marquee talent of Kallay. The senior understands where to put it to both give his man a shot and also protect the ball from the defense. Whether it is dropping it in over a shoulder, back shoulder, putting it up high for his man to time right and high point. The senior also dominates as a decision maker. He knows where to go, finds secondary options if the initial target is covered, and trusts his eyes. Big things are ahead for this QB and this team.

Joseph is another quick pick when predicting passing yards leaders this fall. He is the 2nd most productive returning passer from 2023, and we know that they won’t hesitate to put the ball in his hands during big moments. This year we could see that happen more than ever with all the graduation we saw this summer. That includes RB Terrance Shelton who was leaned on weekly in 2023. It won’t be easy for Joseph to get to the top of the passing ranks with his top 4 receivers from 2023 graduating, but he does returns TE Ben Verges Ben Verges 6'4" | 240 lbs | TE Franklin | 2025 State WI . From there we will have to see who steps up and takes on the plethora of targets in 2024.

Joey might not fit the mold of a prototypical passer at 6′ 185 lbs, but however looks past that and dives into the talent is going to get a stud. Kallay is a technician at the position. That technique is what allows him to carve up defenses He is able to create surprising power to push the ball deep, and can throw it on a frozen rope deep up the seam. Kallay pairs that arm strength with excellent accuracy. Joey is razor sharp with his ball placement, and it allows for a lot of big plays after the catch because he hits his man in stride. The junior made a big jump from ’22 to ’23. I’m excited for this next bump in development. Don’t overlook this kid. He is going to be a big riser.

Another junior who led his team to a State Championship appearance is Franklin’s Joey Kallas. The 6′ 185 lbs passer piled up 2,457 passing yards and 22 TDs. The junior made huge strides from his sophomore season. I have seen him live a few times over the past few months, and it is clear that his mechanics are next level worthy. The feet, hips, and arm work in unison so well, creating impressive velocity on his passes when he needs to put something on it. More importantly, the sharp mechanics allow Joey to be accurate from the pocket or on the move. The arm talent is there for a monster senior season. Don’t sleep on this kid.
