has proven to be a difference maker on Friday nights since he was a freshman. His track speed, strong frame, and ball tracking downfield are making Gavin a tough cover. He is very quick off the line and can be at his top speed within a few strides. After the catch he is just as dangerous. The ’28 WR is on a great trajectory early in his career.

I have said it over and over in this article. A lot of the early offers go out to the kids with the elite, rare traits that are paired with rare size. Gavin might not check the elite size box, but the skillset he brought to the field has me excited for what he could show in an expanded role. As a freshman, Gavin was already ripping the top off of defenses, tracking the ball over his shoulder, and making the catches in stride or in traffic look easy. If he can continue to be that big play threat while also showing off more of his route tree through the season he could turn heads. It won’t be easy for Gavin to be one of those early offer kids, but neither is trying to cover him so we will see what happens. You can bet I’ll be tuning in for the weekly highlights!

When it comes to explosive athletes in the Class of 2028 you have to start with the Franklin WR. The incoming sophomore already looks the part of a WR1 with his 6’1″ 190 lbs frame. He also flies around the field like a WR1. Gavin has a .96 flying 10 time, has hit 23.3 mph top speed, and as a freshman averaged an unreal 25.1 yds/rec with a total stat line of 11/276/1. Every non-RB with more receptions than Gavin graduated this summer, so the door is wide open for him to see a massive spike in his receptions, yards, and TDs. With his size, speed, ball tracking, and quickly developing route running we could be in store for a very memorable sophomore season.

Gavin is one of the more exciting athletes in this Top 10. He quickly made a varsity impact right away at the start of the season. It wasn’t to fill a spot either. Gavin came out and proved he has the speed to stretch the field and the ball skills to be able to reel in those deep passes and flip the field or score the long TD. As a freshman his speed was already a mismatch at the varsity level. I’m excited to see his route tree open up more as he is asked to do more and more things over his career. The building blocks of a high caliber recruit are there to mold.

Gavin is one of only a few 2028s who does have some varsity action under his belt already. He finished 2024 with a 11/276/1 stat line, but there is going to be room for a lot more than that in 2025. Only one athlete on the team with more receiving production than him that returns in 2025 is the starting running back. So Franklin’s offense is going to be looking for a lot of new playmakers out wide.
Gavin is right at the top of the list of athletes who I expect to see vying for a starting spot. The 6’1″ 185 lbs freshman has the size of a lot of varsity receivers that we see across WI with 3 years ahead of him to grow and get stronger. Along with the varsity size, Gavin has a varsity-ready skill set. The athlete has natural ball skills, both making the catch and tracking it while it is in the air. He has the speed to force teams to keep a safety over the top of him, and the second they don’t he can take it the distance. I’m getting ready for a breakout year from the sophomore WR when this fall comes around.

When I saw the freshman WR out of Franklin had registered for the Showcase I was very excited. You don’t often see freshmen making plays on varsity at Franklin HS in Week 1, but Gavin did. The ’28 checked in at 6′ 177 lbs with a nearly 6’2″ wingspan and just shy of 11″ hands. The numbers support what you see on tape. A well built WR with excellent hands. A kid that can make the catch in traffic. Gavin also has shown that he can win with his speed out wide. He did that on Sunday as he stretched the field. The freshman ran a 4.83 40, but plays even faster. I’m very excited to watch what he does this offseason and going forward. Big things ahead.

The freshman WR out of Franklin HS was able to carve out an early role on varsity. So getting him to this showcase is awesome. We can get an early look at what led to that freshman success. From measurements and testing to watching how naturally he tracks and catches the ball, plus watching him go up against talented, older DBs will be a great litmus test for him. Big things are ahead for this WR. I’m glad we get to sing his praises early in the offseason.

of Franklin. Franklin is one of the best teams in WI, so a freshman WR finding even a slight role on the squad is impressive. Gavin has game breaking speed that even the varsity would use to break the game open. He does a great job of tracking the ball in flight and has the hands to easily reel in those deep, over the shoulder passes. Schiek already is a mismatch out wide and is only going to get better over these next three years. Get this kid on your radars early.

Gavin is looking like one of the best skill position players in the Class of 2028 that we have come across so far. He already was seeing varsity reps in the Franklin scrimmage where he was catching deep dimes from QB Joey Kallay. The freshman has good length for the WR position to be able to go up and high point jump balls and reliable hands to hold on through contact. The freshman wideout also possesses the speed needed to be able to step in and make plays on the varsity field. Looking back on past highlights, it is clear that Gavin won’t hesitate to play with physicality and force his way to extra yards by going through a DB. Schiek is an athlete who we could see make Friday night impacts very early in his career.
