Continue ReadingWhat an opening week for Wood’s Yasin Lowry Yasin Lowry 6’0″ | 215 lbs | ATH Archbishop Wood | 2025 State PA . Recently spoke about how little I’d be surprised if this kid popped off and caught people off guard. 16 carries, 123 yards. The stat line pops, especially if you tack on two scores on the ground. Two scores came from inside the 20, yet Lowry still ripped off a 60+ yard run after Wood was backed into their own endzone. Lowry showing utilization no matter where the team lines up on the field. Likely the lead back moving forward. His prowess on offense was fun to watch, his reps at backer are what really intrigues me. Two to three TFLs on tape, fantastic R&R to get out in front of gaps intended to be hit by the BC. Thick build, plenty of drive behind his legs and hips. Great tackling form, will likely be a starter here moving forward as well.
Joe Scarpello Joe Scarpello 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Archbishop Wood | 2024 State PA , another prospect I mentioned in the Preseason Wood Primer, is now the leading scorer on the team, after reeling in three scores through the air. Scarpello’s tape begins with a seam route out of inside slot alignment, caught, with enough speed to break past some DB angles. Scarpello would then take a bubble screen 70 yards after poor angles were taken to bring the senior down in the secondary. Scarpello also beat his defender on a go route inside the 20 for his last score, he fought through some traffic here. The rest of Scarepllo’s tape showcases quality reps at DB, the senior taking some reps at back, even some blocking reps when aligned at wideout.
Karon Shedrick Karon Shedrick QB PA
Karon Shedrick Karon Shedrick QB PA
Nothing like finding a new name close to home that I can talk to coaches about. Karon Shedrick Karon Shedrick QB PA is the new man under center. 12 attempts on the night, completed 11 of them, that alone is a huge step in the right direction for a kid making his first start in the PCL. 200+ yards through the air, majority going to Scarpello described above. 65 on his own accord, works in a post-snap read-option set that allows for Shedrick to hand off the football or pull and tuck himself. Shedrick will be a clear factor on the go, either designed or impromptu sets. Huge game for a kid debuting against a Ryan team chockful of defensive talent up front.
An efficient 11 of 16, 320+ yards through the air, three scores for the top 20 prospect, and leader of the 2023 Explorers. Everything looked too easy, Sidwar’s poise, calmness both pre/post snap doesn’t teeter. Let the kid get a flow early in a game and a secondary will be in for a long night. This time last year, Sidwar excited the PCL in a debut against North Penn that saw him throw for multiple touchdowns in what was his first start. Fast forward to a year later, the stat line might look similar, yet this is a different, more confident Sidwar. Quick to distribute, phenomenal job keeping his eyes downfield despite pressure in the pocket at times. Looks like he understands where all his reads are. We’ll be seeing more of this production week in and week out. Accurate inside the five I might add.
As predicted, Julian McFadden Julian McFadden 5’11” | ATH La Salle College | 2025 State PA ‘s presence, coupled with his offseason-built chemistry with Gavin Sidwar Gavin Sidwar 6’3″ | 185 lbs | QB LaSalle College | 2026 State PA , provided an immediate positive affect on offense. Three receptions, 130+ yards, and a score registered for McFadden, who is the current yardage leader at the program. McFadden flashed the playmaking ability we talked about all offseason, re-working his route on the fly, sitting in an open area, catching a ball out of his outside slot position and taking a 15-yard catch to the house 70+ yards. McFadden attacked the secondary on a nine route that was caught and taken to the one-yard line, could have been his second score of the night. The three-level capabilities McFadden possesses work hand-in-hand with Sidwar’s ability to target kids at every level of the field.
Highlights
Four catches, 120+ yards, and a score for Father Judge’s Nymeir Appling Nymeir Appling 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Father Judge | 2024 State PA . Came in a narrow loss, highlights are on Hudl if cannot find on Twitter. Appling would probably prefer to boast in a winning effort, yet his efforts won’t go unnoticed. Yerkov was able to get free and hit an open corner route ran by the seasoned X receiver in Appling. Poor angles by the DB let Appling loose for a 70-yard score. Ensuing tape does highlight how much bigger and stronger Nymeir was opposite his DB matchup. Put forth a clean and powerful block later on tape too.

270 yards, five touchdowns for the top-ranked passer out of Roman Catholic. Stradled the line between efficiency and splash plays, Semaj Beals Semaj Beals 6’1″ | 155 lbs | QB Roman Catholic | 2026 State PA completed 11 of 22 balls, five of which went for scores. Love how the kid distributed the football, as six different receivers caught a ball this past Friday night. Beals’s first rep on tape shows off the underclassmen’s ability to stretch the field and attack vertically. Coupled with speed outside the numbers, Beals will be a threat to hit guys in-stride 40+ yards downfield, can be trusted to do so with a clean or disrupted pocket. Beals only has the one post on tape, I’m excited to see how he hit guys like Mines and Hopkins later on in the week. Beals cashed in on an impressive 2023 debut. We expect nothing less.
Highlights
Tayden Mines Tayden Mines 5’8″ | 130 lbs | WR Roman Catholic | 2025 State PA was the main recipient of Beals’ production. Three catches, 103 yards, two of his three catches went for touchdowns. Love how the coaching staff utilizes this kid. Both touchdowns came after calling screens at the LOS for Mines, where the young man could get busy in space and make kids look foolish in the open field. The staff trusts Mines with this role, expect two-three screen calls a game if this is what Mines is capable of. Mines is tiny, yet twitchy and can change direction abruptly. He caught some Bulldogs with nasty set-ups in the open field on tape. Worth checking out.
This young man’s stock is rising, considering he’s ranked a bit low, also considering he eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground and served as a viable option through the air. Utilization like this will have Hopkins’s name buzzing in the PCL. 100 rushing yards, 25 through the air, two scores to boot. 50 of Hopkins’ 100 yards on the ground came after an inside hand-off out of gun, one in which Hopkins tunneled through trash in between the tackle before breaking through to the second level and scoring. I knew the young man was talented, this was a step in the right direction.
Wanted to highlight a couple of new names along the front-seven deployed by Roman Catholic this Fall. Both had solid tape to show off after their game against Wilson. That being former Viking Lazaryus Toombs Lazaryus Toombs 6’3″ | 230 lbs | DL Roman Catholic | 2025 State PA and former GMifflin standout Mykell Ford Mykell Ford 6’1″ | 260 lbs | DL Roman Catholic | 2025 State PA . Both accounted for at least 3.5-4 sacks on tape, with Toombs serving as a threat at DE/EDGE, and Ford providing some IDL penetration too. Stat lines are tough to figure out for the big boys underneath, yet I recommend putting on the tape and watching these two work in their new home. Loved what I saw, Roman will need these two to fill some big shoes considering some of the stud defenders Roman has stationed in the front-four in years past.
Although NG went down against a tough out-of-state opponent, I love what I saw out of Stanford commit Khari Reid Khari Reid 5’10” | 165 lbs | DB Neumann – Goretti | 2024 State PA . Mekhi Wharton Mekhi Wharton 6’5″ | 215 lbs | QB Neumann-Goretti | 2024 State PA lofted a jump ball for Reid in the endzone, a ball that Reid had no realistic chance of coming down with, except for when you factor in this kid’s awesome high-pointing ability. Again, we know of Khari Reid Khari Reid 5’10” | 165 lbs | DB Neumann – Goretti | 2024 State PA the cornerback, seeing him score on offense and rack up 50 receiving yards was a pleasure to watch on tape. Khari Reid Khari Reid 5’10” | 165 lbs | DB Neumann – Goretti | 2024 State PA would then return a kickoff later in the game, showing he has his hands in everything. A three-way producer. Reid came up big where he’s trusted most, helping out in run support from safety or corner alignment too.
