The Neumann-Goretti quarterback was arguably the top performer of the entire camp and was very impressive. Here’s what lead scout Vic Castillo Vic Castillo RB PA had to say about Wharton’s performance at the camp;

A walk-up I recommended to participate. Has attended our camps in the past, I’ve been pounding the table for Wharton since his sophomore year. Bit surreal to see him work up close as a senior now. Was the consensus pick for the best performance among QBs. Had the camp buzzing a bit, a lot of “who’s this” comments, despite my consistent clamoring in the young man’s favor. Smooth operator as usual. An experienced and seasoned passer whose performance was a pleasure to watch on Friday night.

was the clear MVP of the quarterback group at the PRZ Showcase. Wharton is great size standing 6’5 inches tall. He has a good arm and is accurate in throwing the football. From the position drills, through the one-on-one workouts, Wharton stood out. The quarterback was a talented group, but Wharton stood out as the best, which is why he was named the MVP of that group. Wharton currently has no offers from College Football coaches, which makes no sense to me. Wharton is a talented prospect who eventually will end up playing College Football, and whoever gets him will get a talented player.

is a big quarterback prospect who is comfortable in both running the ball and throwing it. He shows off a strong arm that he can make difficult throws. He is exceptional on the deep ball, corner routes, and out routes. He struggles with intermediate throws that take more accuracy, but this is something he can improve on. He is good in the run game and teams can use him on the zone read rushing plays by reading the defensive end. Wharton is someone who should have a good chance at playing College Football.

6’5, 215, works almost exclusively out of shotgun, has the frame college coaches drool over. Still unoffered, in a weird space between grades, some think Wharton’s ceiling is that of an FBS prospect, some believe his floor is the PSAC, which of course isn’t something to scoff at. My ranking of Wharton speaks for itself, so we’ll focus more on what his new tape is showing.
Wharton is a better mover than his frame might suggest, I’ve seen him juke kids in space, of course, this isn’t to say that mobility and elusiveness are part of his game, it isn’t, yet Wharton can advantageously utilize his legs. Purposeful and called roll-outs, coupled with solid accuracy have Wharton executing flood concepts while leaving the pocket. Improvisational skills are there, he’s got awesome weapons at his disposal, so when plays break down, Wharton can link up with said weapons when things get muddy in the pocket. Wharton flashes the big arm, one that can target kids 40+ yards downfield without much of a hitch. I want to see Wharton show off the rocket arm even when the pocket isn’t clean. I want Wharton to stay consistent regarding accuracy and footwork when the pocket gets muddy. He’s still a work in progress in these areas, as most HS quarterbacks are. Consistency between plays has always been Wharton’s “issue”. Again, I bring this up because I believe the kid could play at the FBS level. If that’s the case, I won’t sugarcoat things. The giant toolbox that is

is slowly but surely becoming a bit more fine-tuned. I’d love for Wharton to get the ball out quicker, coaches at the next level love a decisive passer.

Wharton, out of Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic High School in Philly, is a prospect I was certainly unfamiliar with but yet now intrigued to follow. At 6’5″ 192lbs he has the size to play literally any skill position on the field. He has the athleticism to match too, having ran a 4.32 second pro agility. Taking reps at quarterback seemed easy for this pro-size ready prospect, as it seemed as if he was effortlessly flicking his wrist and placing the ball at any spot on the field with accuracy.

grade. As we progress closer and closer to the final senior ranking update, I more I have to reflect current recruiting boards. Wharton might have “dropped” on our ranks, yet his FBS grade remains intact. The first three games of Wharton’s senior year will likely decide his fate among collegiate suitors, I’m not ready to back off high praise until we see what happens this Fall. A drop could come, yet we at PRZ are banking on Wharton succeeding early this September.

Currently ranked as the top quarterback in the state without a known offer. Have gone into detail in previous posts about what I like about the Neumann-Goretti passer. Coaches might be up in the air on what to think of Wharton. On the outside, there are a ton of physical traits to like. Could be possible coaches want to see improvement between the ears, I doubt that notion. Never heard of grades being an issue. The first team to openly pull the trigger will say a lot about his current level. Nothing will improve his stock more than a stellar senior season.

is now coming off a State Title run that ended at Cumberland Valley, after just his first year under center for Neumann-Goretti. A real 6’5, a real frame that can absorb contact in the pocket. Real downfield accuracy, he’s got weapons that demand the rock down the sideline, he’s got the rocket to hit them 40+ yards downfield. I still won’t be surprised to hear Power Five programs bite on him this Summer after seeing him at camp. That might be a high bar I’ve set, I’m willing to stick with it. The floor, I know for a fact that several FCS programs have his name on the board. We’ll see how things play out.

Wharton is a very intriguing quarterback here in the Keystone State. He’s our best built quarterback by far and has a great physical toolset. A big 6-foot-5 frame, a strong and effortless arm. He does have the ability to extend plays with his legs but projects best to a pro-style quarterback. His accuracy can improve going forward but overall is solid.
With the right system and some patience, Wharton has great potential at the next level. Projects very well to an FCS quarterback.
