Top Defensive Linemen from the PSR Showcase
With Millville having practically rented a winnebago (my attempt at humor) to send a full platoon to the PSR Showcase, Blachewicz was one of their thicker, heavier players rostered. My guess is likely either a nose or d-tackle in their 33 stack. He has enough size to hold his own one-on-one against opponents of any size; however, where Blachewicz is most disruptive is when he is moving horizontally, slanting and slicing into adjacent gaps. This was on display all afternoon where Blachewicz was knifing and ripping across the face of his matchup to create penetration. When he was not, he used his size and strength to attack his aligned shoulder and win. When he chose to slant, Blachewicz did a decent job fighting pressure as well to avoid creating a hypothetical lane.
A bonafide FBS prospect who currently holds several offers and that colleges are frequently traveling down to South Jersey to visit, Jones is a rising freshman with all the physical tools to succeed. First, Jones clearly has top-end size and a frame to match. The most impressive thing is that he is just a 2026 graduate. As such, he has both plenty of time to continue to and room to grow. That said, Jones was very physical during the showcase. Specifically, I noted that he did a nice job using the long arm and turning speed into power. However, what might have impressed me the most was the motor that Jones plays with. He never gave up on a play and kept fighting and working until the whistle blew. This caused him to win numerous spins via sheer effort after his initial move was made.
Simeon is another class of 2026 phenom who tore it up at the PSR Big Showcase. A sure-bet FCS/brink of FBS interior linemen, Simeon’s athleticism in the middle is what jumped out the most to me. The moment he gets a crease, Simeon is able to bend the corner with ease, get his hips around, and accelerate toward the ball carrier. His best move was the rip. He used this the moment a defender opened their shoulders and, most importantly, he finished the move by following through and ripping to the sky. No holds were drawn because he was so strong that he totally disengaged the blocker. Size, quickness, agility, and strength are what makes Simeon special.
Highlights
Canzano, who is yet another rising freshman, is another edge lineman who impressed – especially amongst the high-end caliber of talent that was on hand. Canzano had freakishly long arms and worked to use them. At times he created space and separation from his opponent by extending his arms. Perhaps the best out of the entire roster of prospects, from what I saw Canzano had tremendous bend. This allowed him to get lower than most and compete with outstanding leverage as he exploded up-and-out from his stance.
Russo is the only rising senior on today’s list. That said, he managed to play with the savviness and canniness that you would expect a seasoned player to possess. Taking his spins from the interior, Russo did a great job of feeling the offensive lineman’s pressure, understanding where to attack, and using his matchup’s own leverage against him. We saw this as he push-pulled and ripped or snatched his matchup, as well successfully hitting a spin move as he pinned his foe with his shoulder and elbow.
