The 2023 football season is right around the corner and at the conclusion of spring practices across Oklahoma, it’s a perfect time to update the prospect rankings! We started this week with the state’s 2026 class and went from a Top 25 to a Top 50. If you missed that update, you can check out the list right here! Throughout the week, we’re diving deep into the rankings with prospect breakdowns. We’re discussing why these players are already on our radar and already on the radar for the next level. Keep it locked in throughout the week as we break down more 2026 prospects. And check back each Monday this month for a new ranking update! Next week, we’ll be updating the 2025 class.
In this breakdown, we’re putting a spotlight on six prospects that are valuable at a few different positions. This article will discuss players that shine at multiple positions and these are just a handful of them. With the 2026 class, you’re talking about prospects that are going into their sophomore seasons. The book shouldn’t be completely written about what position they could play at the next level. There’s a lot of football left to be played between now and when they sign to play at the next level. This group is headlined by the new number one overall prospect in the state’s class and is a player who shined last year as a running back but will see some time at cornerback this fall for a perennial power.
A few things have changed with KD Jones KD Jones 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Jenks | 2026 State OK since the last time we had a ranking update. He’s now the top rated overall prospect in the state, he’s at Jenks where his dad was one of the best running backs in the state and he’s moved from running back to athlete in our database. We still think he’s going to be one of the best running backs in the state this fall and that’s what led him to being our Freshman Of The Year last fall. But he’s already shown this spring that he can play a little defensive back as well at corner. And he’s turned a few heads on the defensive side of the ball. But we are still incredibly excited to see what the future holds for Jones as a playmaking weapon on the offensive side of the ball. He’s fit in right away with Jenks and the Trojans are going to get incredibly creative with how they utilize him on both sides of the ball.
Whenever coaches at Vian are excited about a young prospect, you listen. And that was the case around this time last year when it came to 2026 standout Masyn Wright Masyn Wright 5’11” | 180 lbs | ATH Vian | 2026 State OK and he lived up to the hype. Despite having a team that had quite a few seniors on it, the Wolverines were confident that the young freshman belonged on the field immediately. And he did not disappoint. Wright’s emergence last year at the running back position would allow the Wolverines to get a little more creative with what they did on offense and what they would do with some of their other skill position standouts. Wright had an outstanding season at running back and he produced at a very high level. The Wolverines have had quite a few different standout running backs come through the program over the last ten to fifteen years and Wright is definitely on the path to being the next great one.
Lawton Eisenhower is not lacking talent as they head into the 2023 football season. Specifically in some of the younger classes because they have already shown that they have some dudes that are coming up. We wrote about their 2026 potential star Aiden Monigold Aiden Monigold 6’2″ | ATH Lawton Eisenhower | 2026 State OK earlier this year during our last ranking update. At the time, we didn’t have a lean on him whether we liked him more as a tight end or on defense as a game-wrecking defensive end. And as we mentioned at the top, the book isn’t done being written. He could continue to grow and that answer will certainly follow. But Monigold’s freshman film was very impressive to watch and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does for an encore this season. And with some of the talent that Lawton Ike has in the various classes, we want to see them in person at some point this fall.
We wrote about Durant standout Cole Robbins Cole Robbins 5’11” | 190 lbs | ATH Durant | 2026 State OK a few times this offseason whether it was just breaking down film or checking him out at a few different 7v7 tournaments and we’re convinced he’s a playmaker. Last season, Robbins was a big time player for the Lions whether he lined up at quarterback, safety or returned kicks. We watched him up close and in person at a few 7v7 tournaments this offseason and again he was impressive. Durant has a few 2026 prospects that are on the radar already and we think that Robbins is part of that group and should get a little more attention coming into this fall. It’s going to be very exciting to see how Durant’s coaches use Robbins this season because they know that they have a playmaker but allowing him to have the biggest impact will be key. The Lions could be bouncing back in a big way this season.
Highlights
Everybody is chasing Carl Albert in Class 5A this season but we really like Elgin and what they bring back on both sides of the ball. One of those two-way players is Ritson Meyer Ritson Meyer 6’1″ | 200 lbs | ATH Elgin | 2026 State OK , who was a breakout star for the Owls last fall. Meyer gave Elgin a boost in the running game and was a bruising back that totaled around 800 yards on the ground. Then he turned around and was one of the leading tacklers with well over 100 tackles from the linebacker position. Meyer could very well be considered a linebacker moving forward when you’re talking about him as a prospect but the impact that he has on the game is incredibly high when you look at both sides of the ball. Meyer and the Owls expect to contend in Class 5A this season. They might have snuck up on some teams last year but they’ll be on everyone’s radar coming into 2023 and rightfully so.
McLoud standout Zaylun Matlock Zaylun Matlock 5’10” | ATH McLoud | 2026 State OK is our final prospect on this breakdown and he’s one of the more versatile on the list. He made a massive impact for McLoud last season in all three phases of the game. We got a chance to break down his film from his freshman season earlier this year during our “Friday Film Review” series and the thing that really stood out to us was his ability to make plays from the wide receiver position. He does a great job of beating cornerbacks in a variety of ways whether it’s speed, precise route running or something else. And then on defense, Matlock was able to impact the game on that side of the ball but it was the offense and then his ability in the return game that was eye-opening. He sees the field in a way that not many other prospects his age are able to see the field and that’s why he was able to make a ton of plays.
