The 2023 football season is right around the corner and at the conclusion of spring practices across Oklahoma, it’s a perfect time to update the prospect rankings! We’re wrapping up our ranking updates this week with the state’s 2024 class and it went from a Top 125 to a Top 150. If you missed that update, you can check that out right here! Throughout the week, we’re diving deep into the rankings with prospect breakdowns. We’re discussing why these players are already on our radar and already on the radar for the next level. Keep it locked in throughout the week as we break down more 2024 prospects. And if you missed any of our other ranking updates, you can check those out now!
In this breakdown, we’re putting a spotlight on five of the top wide receivers or tight ends in the state’s 2024 class. Now, this breakdown is headlined by a pair of tight ends that have already committed to Big 12 programs. And while they definitely have the ability to make some plays down field, they are also just as dangerous in the run game as an extension to the offensive line. Then the following three prospects are absolute playmakers at the wide receiver position.
Headlining this breakdown is Stillwater tight end Josh Ford Josh Ford 6’3″ | TE Stillwater | 2024 State OK who has committed to stay at home with Oklahoma State. Just like we said above, Ford definitely fits the mold of a tight end that is more of an extension of a big physical offensive line. But this season, we anticipate his role is going to change quite a bit as the Pioneers have to replace some big names in the skill department as well as the offensive line. The Pioneers will want Ford to help some of those young offensive linemen as they come along and then he’ll also be the security blanket for whoever ends up winning the starting quarterback role. At the time that this is published, that is still undecided. Ford immediately passes the eye test when you see him and he has the potential to be a big threat in Class 6A-2 this fall. We think that his production is going to see a big boost this year in the passing game and then we can’t stress enough how important he’ll be in the run game.
Washington might be the high school version of TEU right now when you consider the tight ends they have within their program. They have one of the top overall prospects in the state’s 2025 class at the position and then 2024 Cooper Alexander Cooper Alexander 6’4″ | 205 lbs | TE Washington | 2024 State OK is one of the best at his position as well. Alexander has been a name we’ve watched since his freshman season with Norman. He enjoyed a breakout season and made the transition look incredibly easy as he moved to Washington. And all the Warriors did last season was enjoy a perfect season, capped off with a state championship. Earlier this month, Alexander announced his commitment to Iowa State, which certainly has experience with Oklahoma tight ends. Alexander is similar to Ford where he can absolutely mow opponents down in the run game and is a very physical player. But he also has quick feet and can get out and run routes as well. We think we could see more of that from them this fall.
The last time we wrote about and went in-depth on Classen wide receiver Elijah Green Elijah Green 6’2″ | 180 lbs | WR Classen SAS @ Ne | 2024 State OK was during our last ranking update back in January. We just came off seeing Green in person at a 7v7 tryout down at the C4 compound in Durant and he was impressive during that afternoon. Then we got a chance to see him a handful of times in 7v7 tournaments against other strong competition and he continued to show that he’s one of the more dangerous wide receivers in the state’s 2024 class. His recruitment really started to pick up towards the end of his junior season and we think when you look at the 2024 class, he’s definitely in the conversation for the best of the bunch when you’re talking about offensive playmakers. Green had a really good offseason and does a lot of things incredibly well. From route running, to sure hands at the point of attack, Green showcased a lot of skills that gave opposing defenses a lot of problems this spring.
Highlights
Another 2024 prospect that has seen plenty of success while training and playing 7v7 with C4 is Damontre Patterson Damontre Patterson 5’10” | 145 lbs | WR Sulphur | 2024 State OK who is now listed as a wide receiver. For the first three years of his varsity career, we had Patterson listed as a defensive back and at the cornerback position to be specific. He was a lockdown guy that really impressed since his freshman year. Not only has he moved positions but he’s moved schools after going from Ada to Sulphur this offseason. We really like what Sulphur brings back and having an electric playmaker like Patterson on the outside at wide receiver will give them a new weapon within their offense. Patterson has been recruited by power five programs across the country and has definitely seen the benefit of working with C4 as he’s performed incredibly well at various 7v7 tournaments across the country. With legitimate track speed, Patterson is a dynamic player at wide receiver.
Highlights
Union wide receiver Jino Boyd Jino Boyd 6’0″ | WR Union | 2024 State OK has been on our radar since the end of his freshman season. We were excited about his potential seeing him in that offseason between his freshman and sophomore seasons and he’s lived up to the hype we had early on. Boyd has led the Redhawks in receiving the last two seasons and is definitely going to be the top target in the Union passing game this fall. Boyd doesn’t have the prototypical size or the track speed that some other receivers in this class have but it really hasn’t impacted his playmaking ability. Time after time, Boyd finds a way to get open and make the catch. And even when he’s not open, there have been plenty of instances where he has found a way to make the catch while being draped by defenders. We think that he’s one of the more underrated offensive weapons in the state’s 2024 class. He is going to make a college staff look incredibly smart when he gets on campus.
