Scout’s Notes: Standout Defensive Linemen
Curry was a terror all day long for offensive linemen during one-on-one drills, impressed during indy, and checked all the boxes during the combine portion of the event. What made curry so effective was his ability to play in a phone booth. Likely more of an interior linemen, he is quick B gap to B gap which enables him to beat interior o-linemen. His change of direction allows him to reroute easily when pass rushing and when pursuing ball carriers.
Another big body in the middle of the trenches, Lopez can eat space and made plays. His size alone makes him a linemen who is difficult to move off of his spot; however, what made Lopez stand out is how quickly he got off the ball. This was not just a flash in the pan though, as for nearly every spin I watched him take he did not lose that burst nor that explosiveness. This made him a tough out and a load to handle on the interior.

Speed kills. I will say it again: speed kills. This attribute alone is what caught my eye about Tejeiro. On Saturday Tejeiro took reps both on the interior and on the edge. Without saying his versatility is a big asset when determining matchups, keeping bodies fresh, and finding the best 11 to play. Do not lose sight though, that no matter where he lined up, Tejeiro’s speed was on display. His allowed him to beat prodding, slower o-linemen and also give more athletic o-linemen a run for their money.

There are two boxes that Canzano checked for me while at the Jersey Juice. The first is the eye test. Canzano has great size, build, and the frame for an edge player. Additionally, from what I saw he had fluid hips. These hips came in handy during one-on-one drills, as Canzano was able to win the corner consistently with a club-and-flip or swipe-and-flip. I have yet to watch Canzano on film, but after seeing him in person he may have the athleticism and twitchiness to play on either the first or second levels of the defense.
