It’s camp season in Oklahoma and Prep Redzone Oklahoma is traveling all over the state to see some of the top teams and players that are going to making plenty of noise this fall. Be sure to check back on the website for various camp reports and follow us on Twitter @PrepRedzoneOK to see where we’re going next! In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on the Owasso team camp. Who stood out, who emerged and much more! Check out our breakdown on standouts from Broken Arrow, Muskogee, Owasso, Sand Springs and Wagoner!
The first of a few Broken Arrow standouts was 2024 quarterback Cooper Bates Cooper Bates 6’0″ | 190 lbs | QB Broken Arrow | 2024 OK and he really impressed on Thursday evening. Bates appears to be Broken Arrow’s next quarterback and he had a really strong showing throughout the camp. The attribute that really stood out to us about Bates was his athletic ability. The play never really seems to be over when Bates is in the backfield. He really reminds us of other quarterbacks that might be a little undersized but they have that “gunslinger” mentality. Bates is going to take risks and he’s going to do whatever he has to do to make a play or extend a play to make the right decision. We think he could be primed for a breakout season this fall.
Highlights
Broken Arrow 2024 two-way star Derrick Osmond Derrick Osmond 6’6″ | 245 lbs | ATH Broken Arrow | 2024 State OK was one of the top prospects in attendance throughout the camp in Owasso. For us, it looked like Osmond shined brightest on the defensive side of the ball. But Osmond showed plenty of instances where he’s going to be a helpful part of the Broken Arrow offense. Whether he’s a pass-catching tight end or a blocking tight end, Osmond is going to provide a spark on the offense. But on defense, Osmond was an absolute game-wrecker. It looked like Osmond has a lot of freedom on the defensive side of the ball. He can line up as a traditional defensive end or back up to more of an outside linebacker role. Either way, Osmond had a big impact on defense.
Highlights
Owasso 2024 wide receiver Duece Chalk was definitely in the conversation for best wide receiver during the two days in Owasso. The Booker T Washington transfer has been someone we’ve been talking about all offseason. While playing with Sooner 7 at various 7v7 tournaments, Chalk was routinely one of the top playmakers at the wide receiver position. And it carried over to this week when the pads came on. There were several passes that were thrown up and Chalk had to make a play on the ball and it seemed like every time that happened, he was coming down with it. When you combine the offseason stuff in 7v7 tournaments with what we saw this week, Chalk is primed for a huge summer and fall.
After watching the various teams in attendance, we came away most impressed with the Muskogee Roughers. 2025 quarterback Jamarian Ficklin Jamarian Ficklin 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Muskogee | 2025 State OK was absolutely lights out throughout the evening. Ficklin has been a quarterback on the rise for us for over a year now and he just continues to get better and better every time we see him. He recently picked up an offer from Tulsa and then threw an absolute strike on the run right in front of Tulsa’s OC, who couldn’t help but dap him up right after the throw. Ficklin is right in the conversation with the other top quarterbacks in this group and I think you can easily make the argument that he’s the best of the bunch. He can beat defenses in a variety of ways and makes it look easy.
We’ve written this quite a bit over the last year and so while it might sound repetitive, it’s necessary to the story. Muskogee 2024 wide receiver and defensive back Kayden McGee Kayden McGee 6’1″ | WR Muskogee | 2024 State OK is one of the top playmakers in Oklahoma today. Just like Chalk, McGee is a prospect that we’ve watched in countless 7v7 tournaments while playing with Sooner 7. And just like Chalk, every single time we watch McGee, he is one of the top playmakers on the field. That played out throughout the camp in Owasso and while he continues to be a highly regarded wide receiver in the state’s 2024 class, he is also seeing his stock start to rise as a defensive back. McGee is going to come into this fall as one of the top two-way stars in Oklahoma.
Sand Springs 2026 offensive lineman Ryley Kester Ryley Kester 6’4″ | 265 lbs | OL Charles Page | 2026 State OK first got on our radar following this camp last year. His freshman season hadn’t even begun and he was already establishing himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the state. On Thursday specifically, we were once again impressed with the top 2026 offensive lineman in the state. Kester ran away with the OL MVP award at our camp a month ago and a big reason behind that was his dominant blocking in 1 on 1 situations and the mean streak he plays with. That mean streak and dominance was once again on full display throughout the camp when we were watching him. Kester was lining up at left tackle and was one of the top guys at his position in Owasso.
Highlights
In addition to Kester, Muskogee 2024 offensive lineman Wesley Harvey Wesley Harvey 6’8″ | 270 lbs | OL Muskogee | 2024 State OK was right there in the conversation for top offensive linemen in the Owasso camp. Harvey would earn the attention of college coaches throughout the two days and picked up a few offers because of it. Harvey has been an offensive lineman on our radar for a while now because of his off the charts size and his game continues to improve every time we see him in person. Harvey is the anchor of an offensive line that is going to be one of the top units in Class 6A-2 this season. They bring back four of the five starters and the unit was absolutely dominant throughout the two days in Owasso. We think that the ceiling for this group is very high.
Wagoner came to Owasso on Friday and they did a really good job of competing with the larger schools in the state. 2024 standout Witt Edwards Witt Edwards 6’6″ | 200 lbs | WR Wagoner | 2024 State OK was once again one of the top performing prospects in attendance. It seems like every time we see Edwards in person, he’s one of the top players on the field. On offense, Edwards provides the Bulldogs with a match-up nightmare as a wide receiver with size that opponents simply can’t compete with. He proved that in the state title game as he made a red zone touchdown just before halftime. Then he turned around on defense and performed incredibly well. Whether he’s a safety patrolling center field or moves closer to the line of scrimmage to blitz, he’s a rare athlete.
