He took his game to another level last fall and then did it again this season. Edwards is the team’s leading receiver in all three categories and has been Charboneau’s top target in the pass game for two seasons now. But Edwards is also a standout on the defensive side of the ball. Edwards is a star on offense, that part is obvious. But his ability to change the game on defense is one thing that cannot be overlooked. He shined in last year’s title game and looks to do it again on Thursday.

While Shieldnight is the best prospect on this Wagoner team, senior Witt Edwards Witt Edwards 6'6" | 200 lbs | WR Wagoner | 2024 State OK has the ability to completely take over a game. At 6’6, Edwards is the team’s leading receiver and he’s a match-up nightmare when the Bulldogs get close to end zone. Edwards has ten touchdown receptions on the season this year. The rest of the team combined has ten touchdown catches. Edwards is also a problem on the defensive side of the ball. It doesn’t matter where he lines up, he has the ability to create problems for an opposing offense. Look for Edwards to have a big role once again on Friday.

We have Edwards listed as a wide receiver in this update and he continues to be the top-ranked prospect at his position. But there are several different spots he can play at the next level. Whether it’s wide receiver or tight end on offense, or several different spots on the defensive side of the ball, Edwards is an absolute game changer and he’s been one of Wagoner’s top players over the last three seasons. Edwards and the Bulldogs have been perfect this season and are looking to repeat as Class 4A state champions in the next month. Earlier this season, Edwards announced his commitment to Vanderbilt. The relationship Edwards had built with the Vandy coaches was a big factor.

That started to swing momentum and the Bulldogs continued that momentum swing in the second half. Edwards has been a unique prospect to watch over the last two seasons. On offense, he is a match-up nightmare at 6’6 and gives Wagoner someone who can catch just about anything on a jump ball. Then he turns around on defense and can literally play at all three levels. He has played at the safety position like a center fielder in baseball. Then he has played closer to the line of scrimmage at the defensive end and linebacker position. And again, his size provides a massive problem for opposing quarterbacks. And as mentioned, when Edwards and Shieldnight are coming after the QB, it becomes a big problem.

He is an absolute athlete and he’s been that since early on in his varsity career. He’s the son of a coach and he knows the game incredibly well. He finished off his junior season with a state championship and he made a touchdown catch right before halftime that really started shifting the momentum towards the Bulldogs as they upset Cushing. Edwards is a red zone match-up problem for opponents as they don’t know what to do with his length and hands. And we got to see that on full display this offseason as he played with Sooner 7 on the 7v7 circuit and made some pretty special catches in 1 on 1 situations. Edwards has the potential to be one of the top receivers in Oklahoma this fall.

It seems like every time we see Edwards in person, he’s one of the top players on the field. On offense, Edwards provides the Bulldogs with a match-up nightmare as a wide receiver with size that opponents simply can’t compete with. He proved that in the state title game as he made a red zone touchdown just before halftime. Then he turned around on defense and performed incredibly well. Whether he’s a safety patrolling center field or moves closer to the line of scrimmage to blitz, he’s a rare athlete.

This was our first chance to see Wagoner 2024 standout Witt Edwards Witt Edwards 6'6" | 200 lbs | WR Wagoner | 2024 State OK in a 7v7 setting and he did not disappoint. Edwards is one of the taller playmakers in the state’s 2024 class at the wide receiver position and he used that length and athleticism to be one of the top targets for the Sooner 7 squad throughout the weekend. While his offense was what earned his spot on this breakdown, another thing that we have to acknowledge was his play on defense as Sooner 7 would stick him at “linebacker” right in the middle of the field and he would walk up to the line of scrimmage and act like a defender on an in-bounds pass in basketball. And believe it or not, that worked on a number of occasions. But Edwards was an absolute monster in the red zone. He caught several touchdowns throughout the two days on jump balls.

In the final days of January, Edwards reported his first D1 offer from Iowa State and it took off from there. Since then, Edwards has been offered by North Texas, Colorado State, Kansas and UNLV offered the Wagoner standout last night. In a span of about three weeks, Edwards went from no offers to five D1 and two power five offers. Edwards is a prospect that we’ve liked ever since seeing him in person for the first time in the 2021 season. While he’s split his time on offense and defense, we think that there’s some serious potential there as a pass catcher. Whether that’s at wide receiver or tight end in the future, that future is bright.
