Sooner State Shootout: Top 14U Playmakers

Enjoy!</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Sooner State Shootout is in the books and it was a fantastic weekend of football in Broken Arrow! 65 teams from 8 different states came and&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/2023/02/sooner-state-shootout-recap/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">four would walk away with championships in their respective divisions</a></strong>. In this post, I'm going to take a look at several playmakers on the offensive side of the ball in the 14U division. Some of these guys made plays on both sides of the ball but they caught our attention mainly for what they did on offense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] - USOs Gold </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This was a name that we had circled before the tournament even began. 2027 tight end [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] from Washington suited up with the USOs Gold team this weekend in BA. He's the son of former OU and NFL tight end Stephen Alexander and younger brother of 2024 top tight end [player_tooltip player_id='154210' first='Cooper' last='Alexander']. So needless to say, the genetics are strong in this family and we wanted to see it first hand. Alexander had a really good weekend and I got a chance to see him in person during bracket play on Sunday. He runs good routes and has a good connection with his quarterback in fellow 2027 standout [player_tooltip player_id='473873' first='Tyson' last='Pogi']. Washington has an embarrassment of riches at the tight end position and Case is next up. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='523223' first='Gage' last='Gibbons'] - Northwest Elite</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Northwest Elite's 14U squad made it all the way to the championship game before falling short to Sooner 7. But they had plenty of fireworks throughout pool and bracket play. They made it to the championship game when wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='523223' first='Gage' last='Gibbons'] found himself all alone and could walk in to the end zone to punch their ticket to the championship game. Gibbons is another example of a wide receiver that just seems to find a way to get open. He still has plenty of time to grow and become more of a threat physically. But right now, it's the fact that he knows how to get open and has a good connection with his quarterback that stood out this weekend. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Jushaune Johnson-Porter - 918 Elite</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There were a few teams in the 14U division this weekend that were actually 13U teams playing up. 918 Elite is one of those teams and despite being one of the younger teams in the division, they had a few guys that caught our eye. One that was really impressive physically was wide receiver Jushaune Johnson-Porter. At this level, if you're already at least 6'0 or close to it, you look like a giant compared to some of the other players on the field and that was the case with Johnson-Porter this weekend. He was a tall receiver that had good hands and as he continues to put the work in, he's going to continue evolving as a really good football player. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Semaj Jones - Sooner 7</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Our final standout was from Sooner 7 with Semaj Jones on both sides of the ball. Sooner 7 had two teams in the 14U division and Jones was on the team that came up short in bracket play. But Jones was outstanding from start to finish this weekend. He really stood out when I watched him on Saturday during pool play. Making plays all over the field on offense and defense. He already has good size and has a good feel for the game at a young age. Only a 2028 prospect, Jones is definitely a name to just file away because before you know it, he's going to be in high school making plays. He's a terrific athlete that should be an impact player in a few years. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
