Every Thursday throughout the regular season, we're going to add three players to our official Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year Watchlist. This list will obviously feature the best of the best in high school football in Oklahoma. Any player, offense or defense, in any class is eligible to be added to the watchlist this season. We're looking for players that have the ultimate impact on their team. Whether it's filling up the stat sheet or having that clutch gene, we want the “it” players that have whatever “it” is. On this week's installment, we're adding three more players. And it's a quarterback special this week as all three standouts play the quarterback position at a very high level. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every day for new content throughout the 2025 football season! And check out our past posts at the bottom of this article to see who else is on the PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year Watchlist!

[player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] - Senior Quarterback - Putnam City

Putnam City senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] leads off this week's additions to the watchlist. Turnbull is a four-year starter after starting his first three seasons at Millwood, helping lead them to three straight state championship game appearances. This season, he's moved up to Putnam City and going from facing 2A competition to 6A-2 competition has been a hurdle that Turnbull has cleared by about a mile. He's helped guide Putnam City to a 4-1 record and no win more important than last week's home win over defending champion Choctaw. It puts the Pirates right there in the conversation with the best of the best in Class 6A-2. This season, Turnbull has thrown for over 800 yards and 13 touchdowns with only one interception. He's also added nearly 400 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. He's had at least one rushing touchdown in every game this season. Last year, we wrote about Turnbull and how he had taken the next step to become a complete weapon at the quarterback position. Now, the improvement has come with him still competing at that elite level, despite playing top competition week in and week out. Turnbull might be destined to take another team to Edmond this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] - Sophomore Quarterback/Defensive Back - Rejoice Christian

Rejoice Christian sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] is the first sophomore to join the watchlist this season. The Rejoice sophomore playmaker is off to a great start this season as he's taken the reins of this Rejoice offense and made plays happen week after week. He's also an outstanding playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. From laying big hits to being a ball hawk in the secondary, Compton-Nero does a little bit of everything for the Eagles. We also had the benefit of seeing him in person last week, as they survived a trip to the Arkansas border with a win over #3 Pocola. It was by no means his best game but the thing we liked about his performance was how much of a complete impact he had on both sides of the ball and his perseverance. Things were not going well for the Rejoice offense in the second half. But when Pocola tied the game at 20, Compton-Nero immediately led a drive where they responded, capped off by his second touchdown run on the night. He can beat defenses with his arm and his legs and when you combine that with what he can do on defense, you have one of the best players in the state. He's hungry to lead Rejoice to another state title in December.

[player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] - Junior Quarterback - Talihina

Our final player on this week's watchlist is Talihina junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1524935' first='Landen' last='Griffith'] and he's arguably the most productive quarterback in the state. It began last season, when Griffith had a breakout year, ending with Talihina playing for the state championship. This season, his numbers are once again off the charts and he's improved greatly as a passer. This season, Griffith has thrown for nearly 1,700 yards and 19 touchdowns in five games. He's also added over 500 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. He's coming off a week five win, where he threw for a season-high 519 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, Griffith was one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state and the numbers backed it up. His passing and rushing numbers were very balanced but this season, he's getting the job done with the passing game but he still has the ability to torch defenses on the ground. He had a three-week stretch this season where he ran for at least 100 yards and multiple touchdowns in every game. He's a big reason why Talihina is 5-0 on the season and ranked #1 in Class A-2. He helped guide them to the state title game a year ago and he's on that path once again this season.
