Every Friday during February through April, we’re going to throw on the tape and break down athletes across Oklahoma. Last week, we put out a tweet asking prospects in the 2024-2026 classes to send us their film for our Film Review feature. Over 150 responses later and we’re off to the races. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every Friday for more breakdowns on athletes across Oklahoma. This week, we began putting out two Film Reviews and this is part two! You can check out Part One RIGHT HERE.
If you’re not featured this week but have sent us your film, don’t worry! You’re on the list and will be covered in the future. Now, all of these breakdowns are based on the film we have access to. And this isn’t just a puff piece. While the majority of the breakdowns will be positive, it will also include areas to improve, question marks and more for the prospect to work on as we head into the spring and summer.
Where do we even start with Kappenman?! Last year I had the opportunity to watch film on Kappenman (2022 Film Review), as well as, Prep Redzone Showcase in January this year. I really like what I’ve seen on film and in person with Kappenman up to this point. He plays downhill with good vision and finishes his tackles through the thighs. With all the film that I watched on him, he never gives any false steps or gets behind on yardage versus the ball carrier. This helps with his reads with no wasted movement at linebacker to allow the ball carrier to gain any yards on him. When he plays on the line of scrimmage, he plays with separation and gets off the blocks quickly. One aspect that I like to watch is him running sideline to sideline chasing down his opponents. It will be interesting to see where Kappenman would project at the next level either at linebacker or the nickel position.

I absolutely love doing these Friday Film Reviews because I get to watch film on guys like Hutcheson. Hutcheson plays running back and defensive end for the Highlanders. He is a big running back that looks to weigh a little over 200 that can get downhill in a hurry. Once he gets the ball, he can get vertical quickly with good vision at the second level. He shows good balance and field awareness who runs hard behind his pads. The one thing I would like to see more of is not running so tall as the ball carrier. He will lower his shoulder on contact and has no issue with being physical. It will be good to see how he progresses from his Junior year to Senior year as I look for him to have an impressive Senior year. Last year he rushed for over 1,600 yards as a junior.

Abston is in the class of 2024 and plays defensive end and tackle for the Tigers. In the film review session, we are going to evaluate him on the defensive side of the ball. Abston has a good frame and weighs in at 230 pounds. He could still add weight to his frame and play out on the edge with what the Tigers do defensively. Abston’s best attribute that was fun to see was how he played down the line of scrimmage. Abston comes off the ball and gets good separation from his lineman. He doesn’t get up the field where it puts him out of position, and he plays with gap integrity. The style of play the Tigers play on defensive, Abston does a good job wrong arming the pulling guard to spill the ball carrier to the overhang player. I can see him adding more weight and playing interior lineman at the next level.
Jaxson Ford
Jaxson Ford
Ford was a fun and exciting player to watch for this film review session. He is an aggressive safety who plays downhill and is not afraid to get in on the run fit. He plays the cutback well and doesn’t shy away from any contact from the ball carrier. Every time he made contact with ball carrier his feet never stop, they are always moving. Ford plays with good pad leverage when striking his opponents and uses his hands well to get off blocks. One thing I would like to see more of from Ford is being a cover guy to see if he can put it all together. I think at the next level it is easy to say he is a defensive player to this point. He is a 2025 athlete who will continue to develop in all phases of the game.
Franklin plays wide receiver and defensive back for the Trojans out of the 2024 class. One thing that I saw in watching his film is that he is not afraid to go up and get the ball. He uses his hands well and came down with several receptions on both sides while high pointing the ball. Franklin drives on the ball when it comes out of the quarterback’s arm. He plays a little high in his back pedal, but it doesn’t take him out of his footwork to turn on the ball. While playing defensive back, he does like contact and gets off the block quickly. I would like to see him put his eyes through the thighs on his tackles and not tackle so high on occasions. Franklin would project at defensive back at the next level and we are excited to watch his growth with this position.
Kolby Masterson
Kolby Masterson
Masterson can do it all for Pocola either at safety, quarterback, running back, or wide receiver. Masterson has a good frame at 6’2″ and can still add plenty of weight to it. When the ball is in his hands, he shows good vision, balance, and is patient for the hole to open. Out at wide receiver, he does a good job of high pointing the ball and grabbing it at its highest point. On defense, he plays safety and is not afraid to come downhill and make a hit. Masterson does not shy away from contact and plays all over the field. There were some balls that were thrown his direction in the middle of the field that he came down with. I really enjoyed watching his film overall and sitting here wondering where he will end up at the next level is a bit of a mystery. I like the ball in his hands on offense, but I am intrigued by his frame and style of play on defense.
Bowen plays for Chickasha High School and is a dual threat quarterback. He flashes good vision along with balance in making his reads on the defensive end. Play after play, Bowen made plays running the ball and shows he can throw the ball. He is effective in the passing game with play action as much as he likes to run the ball. When Bowen drops back in the pocket, he is always moving his feet and keeping his eyes downfield. He shows good pocket awareness by stepping up in the pocket or he will pull the ball down and take off. I like watching Bowen run the ball as he is not afraid to lower his shoulder pads and run you over. As for the next level, I would like to see him throw the ball more in film to be able to evaluate him as a quarterback. He shows what he can do with the ball in his hands as a runner.
Highlights
In the class of 2025, Lorah plays quarterback for the Elgin Owls. Lorah throws a good football. He shows good ball placement along with good timing in getting the football to his receivers. He throws the ball only where his receivers can get it. As he drops back, he does a good job going through his reads and gets the ball out. The thing that I liked about his film is that Lorah makes different throws all over the field. I wasn’t just watching deep balls the whole time. With the other quarterbacks I evaluated in this film review, Lorah is the purest of them all. Lorah does a good job selling his pump fake and still gets the ball out quickly to the receiver. Not only can he throw the ball, but he also does a good job when he does run it. He gets behind his pads and doesn’t shy away. Lorah will be someone we will keep an eye out for, for years to come.
Matlock is a 2026 wide receiver and defensive back who plays at McLoud High School. All throughout his film, Matlock made big play after big play as a freshman. He also is the punt and kickoff returner who makes plays all over the field in these phases. With being able to use the whole field, he uses his field vision well and is good in the open field. Out at wide receiver, he is quick off the line of scrimmage versus man press. When the ball is in the air, he tracks the ball with good eye hand coordination. Being in the 2026 class, Matlock showed good body control and would go get the ball. Matlock does good high pointing the ball and will go attack the football at all angles. Playing defensive back, Matlock drives off the back foot from his “T” post and comes downhill to get in on the tackle. He had a mixture of plays on both sides of the ball, but at this point, I like him out at wide receiver
