is no stranger to the Prep Redzone camp circuit. It feels like Kappenman has been at every single camp we’ve had since launching the camp circuit in 2021. The Deer Creek linebacker has also had plenty of success at these events. He’s routinely been one of the best linebackers in attendance and Sunday was no different. Kappenman immediately stood out and moved incredibly well. He was outstanding in the drills and responded quickly to the coaching he was given. He also played in a 7v7 tournament down in Texas on Saturday and made it all the way to Broken Arrow for the camp on Sunday. He got banged up in one on ones but other than that, it was a very successful day once again.

We caught the majority of the second half of Deer Creek’s 35-7 win over Bartlesville in the quarterfinal round. And the thing that stood out to us was the swarming defense shutting down the Bruins and their rushing attack. It felt like the Antlers had more than 11 players on the field because they swarm to the football. And junior linebacker

is a good example of just that. He’s been a consistent presence at our PRZ camps and routinely is among the best at his position. The Antler defense against Muskogee’s explosive offense is a big key this week.

showed off very good speed and athleticism throughout the whole event. The L-Drill was no different. He had the second best time out of all of the linebackers. His first attempt was decent, being at 7.56. His second attempt was his best, being 7.38. It was impressive seeing him throughout the whole event.

put up great numbers throughout the whole combine. This includes him having the fastest time for a 40 yard dash out of any of the linebackers. He is taller and bigger than Sowers, who I talked about above, but he also showed speed to go along with that. On his first attempt, he recorded 4.69. That is not great compared to his second attempt, which he recorded 4.57. That 4.57 is the quickest time of all of the linebackers. It was impressive watching him dominate at the showcase. That is nothing new for him, as he is the #51 ranked player and #6 linebacker in the class of 2025. He makes a big impact for Deer Creek. It will be interesting to see how he continues to improve over the next two years.

The next linebacker that we are going to talk about is Kappenman from Deer Creek. Kappenman is in the 2025 class and is a good-looking linebacker. I remember watching him last year at the camp coming away impressed as a freshman backer. Kappenman was the leader of the group that was out in front of every drill. He is a physical linebacker that likes to get his hands on you in pass coverage. Sometimes that can put him in a bind with faster running backs out running routes. Kappenman had good reps versus the running backs all day long and I will be excited to keep my eyes on this one this upcoming season. I love watching his game film playing inside linebacker getting downhill plugging holes and meeting running backs on their side of the ball.

Where do we even start with Kappenman?! Last year I had the opportunity to watch film on Kappenman (2022 Film Review), as well as, Prep Redzone Showcase in January this year. I really like what I’ve seen on film and in person with Kappenman up to this point. He plays downhill with good vision and finishes his tackles through the thighs. With all the film that I watched on him, he never gives any false steps or gets behind on yardage versus the ball carrier. This helps with his reads with no wasted movement at linebacker to allow the ball carrier to gain any yards on him. When he plays on the line of scrimmage, he plays with separation and gets off the blocks quickly. One aspect that I like to watch is him running sideline to sideline chasing down his opponents. It will be interesting to see where Kappenman would project at the next level either at linebacker or the nickel position.

was right there in the discussion for best ‘backer there. We’ve now watched Kappenman four times in person at our camps in the last 12 months and then we combined that with his sophomore film and it’s hard to not be impressed. As we mentioned in previous posts about Kappenman, it’s apparent that he has a drive to not only get out and get as much competition as possible but he was incredibly vocal on Saturday and getting as much feedback from his coaches as possible. Because we’ve seen him at four camps now in the last year, it’s easy to see the growth that Kappenman has had both physically and within his game that makes him one to watch this fall.

was the top linebacker in this drill, showing shiftiness to go with his 5’11” frame. His times were 4.6 and 4.44. The 4.44 was the quickest out of any linebacker at the event. This is one of those attributes that contributes to him being able to reach his ranking in his class: #51 in the state and #6 at his position. I could not find the stats for his performance this season, but it is hard to imagine that his shiftiness does not play a factor in his dominance on the field.

. This is a prospect that has been on our radar since early January, when he first came to one of our camps. In fact, he came to three of our Prep Redzone events throughout the first four months and continued to get better every time out. When you look at Deer Creek this year, there’s a lot to like when you’re watching the defense. A lot of the attention goes to the secondary, but the front seven is talented as well. And one of the young standouts is Kappenman. Taking a look at him on film from early on this season, he really does a good job of reading the quarterback’s eyes and then filling the gap in a hurry. We’re wanting to see more of his play when it comes to pass coverage and lateral movement, but when it comes to stopping the run, we’re very impressed with Kappenman’s growth.
