Continue ReadingOn October 31st, Prep Redzone Next released its initial 2027 Football Prospect Watch List. The list is continuing to grow every every day, as new prospects are added behind the scenes. In February/March, the new prospects that are being added will become visible to subscribing members on the Watch List with our second update. The list will be updated three times during the spring and summer camp season(s). The final list will be released in mid-August, as these athletes are set to begin their high school careers. Here is a look at the athletes from the state of Alabama, that were included on the initial 2027 Football Prospect Watch List.
A big 6-foot-2, 280-pound Offensive and Defensive Lineman with some natural, country strength. The Central Baldwin Middle School eighth-grader looks physically mature for his age and plays that way, too. Already squatting 365 for reps.
One of the cover boys in the picture above, Willis is an athlete from Oak Mountain Middle School, that I’ve been high on for over two years. Imposing athlete at 6-foot-3 and 205-pounds. Spent much of his middle school career at RB/LB but has likely already outgrown those positions.
Highlights
A standout on an undefeated, conference championship-winning McAdory Middle School football team. After playing primarily QB/RB as a seventh-grader, transitioned into a more natural fit at WR/DB for his eighth-grade season. Production and results speaks for themselves.
A one-man highlight reel for Prattville Junior High, Alexander was a Swiss Army Knife all season long for the Cats. Exceptional speed made him a nightmare at Wide Receiver, Wildcat Quarterback, Wingback, Returner and more. Explosive player.
Highlights
A rocked up Running Back who produced video game numbers all season long for Hillcrest Middle School in Tuscaloosa. At 5-foot-8 and 165-pounds he has a high school-ready body right now and the work ethic to go with it.
Highlights
In his final year before heading off to Spain Park High School, Cowley had a very productive season. Running angry, and with a purpose, the 5-foot-8, 150-pounder looked like a well-seasoned athlete. Some of the best fundamentals for a 2027 back I’ve seen thus far.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and 150-pounds, Thomas was at the helm of a Smiths Station Junior High football team that went to the playoffs this year. A two-year captain, he was the engine of an offense that consistently found ways to put points on the board for much of the year.
Highlights
Another one of the prospects on the cover of this article, Moseley is a prospect who keeps getting better and better. The future Hoover Buccaneer has all the tools to warrant getting some early college looks. It may take him a little bit to get on the varsity field, but the 6-foot, 155-pounder is exciting to watch.
Highlights
While undoubtedly on the smaller side at just 5-foot-6 and 125-pounds right now, Malone more then makes up for it with his athletic ability. Listed as an athlete, the WR/DB is one of several Oxford Middle School athletes in the classes of 2027 and 2028 to have a lot of optimism about.
A really good looking two-way prospect at Linebacker and Running Back for Clay-Chalkville Middle School. Already possessing the thickness required to maintain on the varsity level at 5-foot-10 and 205-pounds, he also has unassuming speed for a prospect at his size and level. Very interested to see how he develops.
Any time an eighth-grader gets called up to the varsity squad, it’s something to take note of. Now digest the fact that Yadao was called up to the varsity team of the defending 6A State Champion Clay-Chalkville High School, for the playoff run. The Cougars unfortunately bowed out in the state playoffs for this year, but the dangerous 5-foot-9 righty is a prospect to get familiar with.
Another Quarterback from the Yellow Hammer State to know early. Roberts has played on the JV team at Mobile Christian High School since the seventh-grade. While certainly a gifted signal caller, the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is an even better baseball player. As of now, has a very good chance to go big places in both sports.
Highlights
The first of two Anniston Middle School prospects on this initial list, Heard is an electric kid with the ball in his hands. Whether it was at Quarterback, Defensive Back, Returner or whatever other position he was needed at, #7 consistently made plays for the Bulldogs.
Listed at a generous 5-foot-7 and 130-pounds, Huff certainly isn’t going to wow with his size, but he has some serious shake and wiggle in his game. Dangerous athlete that can be lined up at a multitude of positions, in many different offensive sets. A tireless worker off the field as well. Size will dictate a lot here.
Joining Elijah Malone Elijah Malone 5’6″ | 125 lbs | DB AL , Jiyez Fleming Jiyez Fleming 6’0″ | 175 lbs | RB AL is another Oxford Middle School prospect to make the initial list. Fleming looks like a future star at the Running Back position, already measuring 5-foot-11 and 145 pounds. Is squatting north of 300 pounds for reps and is starting to thicken up in his lower half.
The Moulton Middle School student-athlete had a productive, and at times, a special eighth-grade season. A well-balanced mix of power and decent speed, he’s off to a Lawrence County High School team that went 3-7 this season and 0-6 in 5A Region 8 play. Taylor should be a welcomed addition.
Playing alongside the previously mentioned Darion Moseley Darion Moseley 6’0″ | 155 lbs | WR State AL , the Bumpus Middle School prospect had an excellent year as QB1 of a 7-2 team and will head to Hoover High School next year. Harris is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound three-sport athlete and is widely considered an even more coveted baseball prospect.
Despite a 3-7 season on the varsity level, there has to be a level of optimism around the Oak Mountain football program with eighth-graders like the previously mentioned Ba’Roc Willis Ba’Roc Willis 6’3″ | 225 lbs | LB Moody | 2027 State AL and Kylan Baker Kylan Baker 6’0″ | 160 lbs | DB Moody | 2027 AL coming in next year. Baker is the lightning to Willis’ thunder in the backfield and looks like more natural back. Keep an eye on this duo.
Highlights
At 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds, the question isn’t whether or not Major Moorer Major Moorer 6’3″ | 190 lbs | ATH AL has next-level ability, it’s at what position his ability will shine at. The son of a high school coach, Moorer had a very impressive season on both sides of the ball for Homewood Middle School. Looks like he could be a budding TE/DE star, in my opinion.
Another future Hoover Buccaneer, McKinnon is a prospect that is just starting to scratch the itch in terms of football potential. The son of Ronald McKinnon, the 1995 Harlon Hill Trophy (D2 equivalent of the Heisman), he’s currently standing 6-foot and 160-pounds. Equally impressive as a Linebacker and Right End. Right now, looks to project more as a Linebacker.
The second Anniston Bulldog to make the initial list, while Jayden Heard Jayden Heard ATH AL is picking up big chunks of yards, Sharontae Bailey Sharontae Bailey 6’4″ | 285 lbs | OL Anniston | 2027 AL is the one opening up the holes along the offensive front. While I don’t have verified measurables, trust me that he has varsity-ready size, and moves better than the top Running Back at most middle schools around the country.
Rounding out the trio in the cover image, Seaborn is the 2027 Alabama prospect with the most deserved-hype. As an eighth-grader he has not only seen time at Thompson High School, the No.2-ranked team in the state and three-time defending state champ, he has also recently led the team to a 34-0 victory in the opening round of the state playoffs. All he did in his HS playoff debut, was go 33 of 40 for 342 yards and four touchdown passes. Insane.
Highlights
Yet another Smiths Station Junior High prospect to keep an eye on going forward. Trevon Kee Trevon Kee 5’9″ | 165 lbs | ATH North Clayton | 2027 GA is a 5-foot-10, 145-pound Linebacker/Running Back that plays “with that dog in him.” A tremendous motor with sideline-to-sideline speed, he makes opposing payers think twice about running in his direction, when he greets them.
A very instinctive Linebacker who wrapped up a very good middle school career for the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies. At 6-foot and 160-pounds, Hardy is a hard-nosed Linebacker/Tight End who is very good at defeating blocks at the point of contact. Also a talented Catcher on the baseball diamond.
