Rocky McKinnon is a really talented linebacker prospect out of Hoover that played a lot great ball in his first season last fall. McKinnon has a lot of impressive instincts and does a great job putting himself in the right position to make plays. It doesn’t matter what the opposing offense runs, McKinnon can quickly diagnose and disrupt plays regardless of where he initially lines up pre snap. McKinnon also has the technique and athleticism to be a really solid tackler with a lot of sideline to sideline skills- he has a lot of speed, strength, and a great motor that allows him to consistently make an impact all over the field throughout the whole game. Watch out for him in this Hoover defense next season, McKinnnon is a dynamic linebacker for them that has a lot of potential as a prospect!

McKinnon had a really solid freshman season where he demonstrated lots of great skills and traits as a key leader of the defense. He has some seriously impressive instincts and anticipation, he is able to very quickly diagnose and and disrupt plays regardless of what kind of things the opposing offense are doing. McKinnon is also a really solid tackler with a lot of sideline to sideline skills- he has the athleticism to impact plays all over the field, regardless of where he initially is lined up. Watch out for him in this Hoover defense going forward, he’s made a ton of plays against the run and pass already and is set up for a great sophomore campaign this next year.

My favorite LB on the day, McKinnon was a standout during all three phases of the PRZ Next SE Middle School Showcase: testing, individual drill work, and 1-on-1s. His strong combine numbers translated very well to 1-on-1s, where his change of direction skills were impressively on display and allowed him to read and react to RB routes before shutting things down and easily breaking on the ball. McKinnon will head to Alabama powerhouse Hoover High School next year.

McKinnon is a tall athletic linebacker with great range and a lean build – looks like he was put on this earth to play the position. Speaking of being put on this planet to play the position, he’s the son of Ronald McKinnon. Pops is a 10-year NFL vet, College Football Hall of Famer and the 1995 Harlon Trophy winner (The D2 equivalent of the Heisman Trophy). The apple didn’t fall far from the tree here, because Rocky showed out. Standing at a verified 5-foot-10 and 157-pounds and running a hand-timed 4.84 in the forty, his athleticism was on full display at the camp.  Showed very good in-game speed and patrolled all areas of the field. He was very good in coverage during 1v1’s, he’s extremely versatile. He’s a super-smart, instinctive player and a quick thinker, that’s only going to get better. Buy stock now.

Another future Hoover Buccaneer, McKinnon is a prospect that is just starting to scratch the itch in terms of football potential. The son of Ronald McKinnon, the 1995 Harlon Hill Trophy (D2 equivalent of the Heisman), he’s currently standing 6-foot and 160-pounds. Equally impressive as a Linebacker and Right End. Right now, looks to project more as a Linebacker.

McKinnon is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound outside linebacker/tight end prospect out of Hoover, Alabama. He does a nice job commanding the defense and is one of the anchors and leaders of the Bumpus. He’s not a player that will burn you with elite speed but he’s a fundamentally sound player who has sure hands, runs solid routes and can make would-be tacklers miss. Football bloodlines run in the family, as his father Ronald, won the 1995 Harlon Hill Trophy. The Harlon Hill Trophy is the Division II equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. The elder Mckinnon is a College Football Hall of Famer and went on to play linebacker in the NFL for nine seasons.
