Expert Analysis
Josh White | Prep Redzone Scout
Richey consistently stresses defenders with quick acceleration and sharp cutting ability. His burst off the line of scrimmage repeatedly created early advantages, and he shows strong vision attacking running lanes with urgency once openings developed.
The shiftiness in his game stands out immediately. He works comfortably through condensed traffic, using smooth agility and sudden direction changes to make defenders miss in tight spaces. Even when the first lane closes, he has the agility to redirect without losing momentum.
Combined with solid straight-line speed, the overall running profile projects well as a dynamic change-of-pace weapon capable of creating explosive touches in multiple situations.

His vision between the tackles allows him to identify backside cut lanes that many backs miss. Richey’s patience behind pulling guards stands out, especially in gap-scheme concepts. He has proven to be reliable in short-yardage and goal-line situations, making him a true every-down option. is an electric RB out of Thompson who’s coming in as our #5 RB and #65 overall prospect in the state.
“Richey plays with a ton of toughness and takes hits better than most. He has great contact balance, can easily break tackles, and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to plow through defenders. In addition to his physicality, Richey plays with a ton of speed and elusiveness that allow him to easily maneuver around the field and make defenders miss.
Richey is a well-rounded back with a great blend of physicality and speed who can do so many different things for his offense. He’s set up for a big junior year.“
In the last month, Richey has picked up offers from Eastern Kentucky, Delaware State, and more! I’m certain more will be on the way soon- he’s going to have a massive season for Thompson this fall.
Richey put together some great film last season:

Richey is a name familiar to me, but this is my first time really diving into his tape. Shorter, leggier prospect. Long strides in the open field. Runs hard. Gets the ball and goes, doesn’t think much about it. Runs hard, will sometimes run into blockers, but remains active to keep climbing levels. Almost unpredictable in the open field with a combo of effort and long strides. Doesn’t look like tacklers know how to engage them. Not a burner, but I think he can develop an extra gear. Decent initial quickness. Highly productive. Richey maximizes his traits and has a high floor thanks to how hard he runs.

Richey is a dynamic back with elite vision and lateral quickness, making him a nightmare for defenders in open space. His ability to set up blocks and accelerate through the hole gives him an edge against any defensive scheme. He possesses a low center of gravity, allowing him to break tackles and keep his balance through contact. With soft hands out of the backfield, he adds versatility to his game as a receiving threat. As he continues to develop his strength and top-end speed, expect him to become a premier playmaker in Alabama’s 2027 class.

is a really talented running back out of Hillcrest who has been super reliable for his team’s rushing attack this year. Richey is coming off a dominant performance against Hueytown last week where he made plays on the ground and through the air in his team’s 48-14 win. Despite being a smaller back, Richey plays with a ton of toughness and takes hits better than most- he has great contact balance, can break tackles, and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder into defenders. In addition to his physicality, Richey plays with a ton of speed and elusiveness that allow him to easily maneuver around the field and make defenders miss. It was easy to see these skills show up last Friday- Richey ended the game with 15 carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and an additional 2 receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown in the air as well. It’s been really exciting watching Richey play as well as he has in year two- be sure to watch him play down the stretch of this season- he’s a talented prospect that has already put together a bunch of great tape!
