Throughout the month of October, we had an update to our prospect rankings. Three weeks ago, we released our first watch list for the 2026 class. The first rankings for that class will come out in January. Two weeks ago, it was all about the 2025 class. We’ve updated those rankings to feature the top 75 sophomores in the state. You can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE. Last week, we took a look at some of the top juniors in Oklahoma with an update to the 2024 rankings. You can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE. This week, we finish up the ranking breakdowns with a look at the 2023 rankings. You can check out the Top 200 Seniors RIGHT HERE.
In this post, we’re taking a look at the absolute best of the best in the senior class. These are the top ten prospects in Oklahoma today. Most of these prospects have already announced commitments but with the first signing period a little over six weeks away, the full court press will be put on some of the uncommitted top prospects in the state. Stay tuned throughout the week for more 2023 prospect breakdowns.
Holding on to the top spot in the recent ranking update is Community Christian athlete Bai Jobe Bai Jobe 6’5″ | DL Community Christian | 2023 State OK . Jobe will more than likely be a defensive end at the next level, where he’s given a commitment to Michigan State. But the versatility and off the charts athleticism makes him one of the freakiest athletes we’ve seen come out of Oklahoma in quite some time. Jobe can come off the edge and bring down a quarterback and he’s just as likely to return a kick for a touchdown or catch a touchdown as a tight end. Not to mention he was one of the better basketball players and helped lead Community Christian to the Class 3A state championship game back in March. And Jobe’s best football continues to be ahead of him as he’s scratching the surface of being truly special.
A prospect who is going to go wire to wire as the state’s top offensive lineman prospect in the 2023 class is Stillwater center JaKobe Sanders JaKobe Sanders 6’3″ | 285 lbs | OL Stillwater | 2023 State OK . Since his breakout season as a freshman, Sanders has been on our radar and he’s played just about every position along the Stillwater offensive line. Last year, he was moved to center and that position has stuck and it fits his game and his size so well that his stock as a prospect went up dramatically in our eyes. While Sanders has dealt with injuries this year, he’s still making an impact for the Pioneers. When we look at Sanders and his potential, the sky is the limit. And we don’t make this statement lightly. But Sanders has NFL potential. He’s reminiscent of Creed Humphrey, who’s now with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Highlights
One of several All Americans in this 2023 class is Bixby tight end Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6’4″ | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK . The Bixby standout had a meteoric rise in a six month span from October, 2020 to March, 2021. He went from mostly an unknown prospect, who actually came out to the football team as something to do before basketball season. And by the time we reached March of 2021, Hasz was a true national prospect at the tight end position. He had a breakout season as a sophomore and his recruitment absolutely exploded. We’ve watched Hasz quite a bit, both for Bixby and in the offseason. His blend of size, speed and great hands makes him one of the best tight end prospects to come out of Oklahoma in quite some time. He was once committed to OU but has been committed to Arkansas for a while now.
Even though we think he’s one of the best running backs in the state, we finally made the switch and moved McAlester standout Erik McCarty Erik McCarty 6’2″ | 175 lbs | DB McAlester | 2023 State OK over to the defensive side of the ball on this latest update and listed him as a defensive back. He’s committed to Oklahoma as a safety prospect so even though we think he could play running back in college, we’ll give him the nod there. McCarty is one of the best overall football players in the state and it’s not even up for debate. He impacts all three phases of the game in a way that almost nobody else in Oklahoma can do. He’s a marquee running back, clearly one of the top safeties in the state and he probably has more blocked punts than anybody else in Oklahoma. He’s a true game changer in every aspect of the game.
Similar to McCarty at McAlester, another two-way star in the state’s 2023 class is Booker T Washington standout Micah Tease Micah Tease 6’1″ | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK . And just like McCarty, it appears that Tease is headed to the next level to play on the defensive side of the ball. But unlike McCarty, we still haven’t made the switch because Tease is one of the best wide receiver prospects in the state and in this part of the country. It doesn’t happen very often anymore at the highest level but we do believe that Tease could play on both sides of the ball in college. Tease has made defenses look bad over the last three seasons and while he might be headed to the next level to stop wide receivers. There’s no doubt that he’s been one of the best players not only in the state but in this part of the country at that position.
Injuries are part of football and unfortunately for Owasso star wide receiver Cole Adams Cole Adams 6’0″ | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK , he had nearly his entire senior season wiped out because of a shoulder injury. Adams got hurt in the first half of the season opener against Bixby and has been out ever since. The Alabama commit has been one of the more electric playmakers in the state since his freshman year and really had a breakout season in 2020 as a sophomore. Adams truly became a national prospect this offseason when in the span of 72 hours, he was offered by Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. When you get a trio of SEC schools like that offering you in a short time span, you get on a whole new radar. One of the biggest “what ifs” we have for this season is how Owasso would have looked with Adams in the lineup.
Another Under Armour All American is Mustang defensive back Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6’4″ | DB Mustang | 2023 State OK . And like several players within this top ten, Johnson is an absolute star on both sides of the ball for the Broncos. While he’s headed to Norman to play cornerback, Johnson has shown that he can also torch DB’s as a big playmaker within the Mustang offense. And similar to Jobe at Community Christian, Johnson is one of the best two-sport stars in the state’s 2023 class. He’s a legitimate top ten prospect for both basketball and football in this year’s senior class. While his future appears to be on the gridiron, we can’t overlook what he’s been able to do on the basketball floor. Johnson is determined to help lead the Broncos much further in the 6A-1 playoffs and contend for a state title.
There are quite a few versatile athletes within the top ten and all over the 2023 rankings. But there might not be another prospect that is more versatile than Plainview’s Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6’2″ | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK . How versatile? He has legitimate D1 offers to play four different positions at the next level. Now, two of those positions are tight end AND wide receiver. But the point is still valid. College coaches also like him as a linebacker or even further back as a safety. Pearson has long been one of the top wide receivers in the state, really since his freshman season when he was a big play waiting to happen every time he stepped on the field. But his explosion as an overall athlete on offense and defense has been very fun to watch. Out of the top ten prospects, Pearson is the last one currently uncommitted.
Jumping back in the top ten overall rankings is Choctaw quarterback Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6’4″ | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK . Since we started ranking the 2023 class, Wasel has been the top quarterback prospect every single time we have a ranking update. And there isn’t much explanation necessary as to why as he’s been the top QB prospect for three seasons now. He just recently eclipsed 100 passing touchdowns for his career and he and the Yellowjackets seem to be on a one way road to the 6A-2 state championship. Physically, Wasel looks the part and an underrated part of his game is his running ability. While he’s known more for his passing, he can also tuck the ball and run. Wasel’s accuracy this season has been off the charts as he’s been one of the more efficient quarterbacks not only 6A-2 but in the state.
If you’re looking for consistency along the defensive line, look no further than Del City defensive end Jaedon Foreman Jaedon Foreman 6’4″ | DL Del City | 2023 State OK . The Oklahoma State commit has been one of the best at the position and overall prospects in this class for four seasons now. After breaking out as a freshman, Foreman has continued to raise his stock and has been one of the better prospects in the state’s 2023 class. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in Stillwater but before we get to the next level, Foreman and his Del City team are one of the top teams in Class 5A. Foreman is one of several future D1 prospects that play along the Del City defense and that has made facing the Eagles an absolute nightmare this season and over the last several years in 5A and before in 6A-2.
