In Class 2A, there is a state championship-worthy match-up taking place in Owasso as #2 Beggs travels to Owasso to face off with #3 Rejoice Christian. As we head into the game, this has shootout written all over it when you look at the very talented players on both sides of the ball. Beggs beat Rejoice in a shootout last year, running the ball at will at the expense of the Eagles. These two teams have looked outstanding as they head into the clash on Friday night as Rejoice is 2-0 following road wins over Cashion and Cascia Hall. Meanwhile Beggs opened the season with an easy win over Hugo in week one. The winner of this one has to be right there in the conversation with Washington as one of the top teams in Class 2A. And the loser isn’t out of the conversation by any means. But we’ll sure know a lot more about both teams following this match-up on Friday night.
Below, we put a spotlight on five players from Beggs that you need to know about going into Friday’s match-up.
Our first Beggs player to watch is 2023 defensive lineman Chance Jordan Chance Jordan 6’0″ | 270 lbs | DL Morris | 2023 State OK and we have to put a disclaimer here on this breakdown. Jordan did not play in Beggs’ season opener against Hugo. He was on the sidelines but he did not get into the game. It’s unclear as we publish this whether he’ll play in the game on Friday. But if he does play, you have an absolute game-wrecker on the line of scrimmage if your Beggs. Jordan was a defensive lineman to watch last season heading into the year and he responded by becoming one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the state, climbing into the top ten for overall prospects in the 2023 class. he earned 1st Team All State honors and if he does play on Friday, he’ll play a big role by setting the tone on the line. Rejoice has one of the best offenses and quarterbacks in the state and it’ll be up to Jordan and the Beggs defensive line to make them very uncomfortable.
If Jordan is unable to go on Friday, the Demons still have some talent along their front seven at both levels. They have one of the better young linebackers in the state with 2025 backer DJ Strother DJ Strother 6’1″ | 210 lbs | LB Union | 2025 State OK , who had an outstanding freshman season. He got his sophomore year off with a bang last week with double digit tackles, a handful of tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Strother will need to know where Rejoice quarterback Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6’3″ | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK is at all times on Friday night. Wilson has legit track speed and he’s just as dangerous to beat defenses with his legs as he is his arm. He torched Cascia for 300+ passing yards and 100+ rushing yards in week one. If Strother can keep Wilson contained in the running game and avoid giving up those back-breaking plays on defense. The Demons are going to have an excellent shot at making a statement in week two on the road in this top five match-up.
2024 quarterback Knox Dyson Knox Dyson 6’3″ | 185 lbs | QB Owasso | 2024 State OK hasn’t had the simplest path to the football field as he’s with his third school in three years but there’s no doubt that there’s talent there when it comes to Dyson as a passer. There’s no doubt that Beggs is a run-first team with the offensive line and extremely talented players they have in the backfield. But Dyson gives Beggs a legitimate threat at quarterback to beat defenses with his arm. We’ve seen plenty of the 2024 quarterback during the last few offseasons while participating in 7v7 tournaments and passing leagues. The arm talent is there and he can get the ball from point A to point B in a hurry. We’re interested to see what kind of production Dyson has in an offense that is run-heavy, but can open things up for him and the passing game. He’ll be attacking a Rejoice defense and specifically a secondary that specialize in forcing turnovers.
Highlights
The 2024 running back is one of the best backs in Oklahoma and he got his season off to a great start last week against Hugo. He finished with 181 yards and four touchdowns on just 12 carries. Martel also had plenty of success in the match-up against Rejoice last year. He finished with well over 200 yards and four touchdowns. And Martel has to be the biggest key to what happens in this one after watching Rejoice up close in week one against Cascia Hall. They had a very tough time slowing down Cascia’s running game as the Commandos took up chunks of clock by running the ball behind a power back. And facing a running game like what Beggs has and specifically Martel, it could be a long night for the front seven of Rejoice. Beggs will try to take a page out of Cascia’s playbook and keep feeding Martel and the running game to keep Wilson and the Rejoice offense on the sidelines throughout the game.
Highlights
Arguably the top 2025 prospect in the state right now is Ryan Grayson Ryan Grayson 6’0″ | 160 lbs | DB Beggs | 2025 State OK from Beggs. We don’t know what’s in the water in Beggs right now but they’re experiencing a stretch where they have top ten prospects in five consecutive classes. Grayson is the youngest of the bunch and appears to be emerging as one of the best defensive backs in the state, regardless of class, following his breakout freshman season. When we first watched Grayson, we were really impressed with his abilities at the running back spot and he had a good season there as the third guy in the Beggs backfield. But then you turn around and look what he’s able to do at cornerback and it’s incredibly special. Rejoice and specifically QB Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6’3″ | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK is going to test Grayson and the Beggs secondary so his play on the defensive side of the ball will be key. But don’t be surprised if you see him come into the game on the offensive side of the ball.
