In case you missed our complete ranking update, you can check out the 2024 Top 75 Right Here! Throughout the week, we’ll take a look at different position groups, along with several other ranking breakdowns. Stay tuned to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the month of June for more ranking updates, along with a ton of prospect breakdowns. In this post, it’s all about the quarterback position. The 2023 class is absolutely loaded with quarterbacks. And the 2024 class is getting better and better every day. We take a look at the top five signal callers in the state’s 2024 class.
River Warren
River
Warren
6'4" | 195 lbs | QB
Del City | 2024
State
OK
– Bishop McGuinness
(Ranked #18 Overall – #1 QB)
Bishop McGuinness quarterback River Warren River Warren 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Del City | 2024 State OK had the tough task of replacing an absolute star in Luke Tarman last season and he did it flawlessly. He certainly had help with the emergence of 2023 star running back Mike Taffe Mike Taffe 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Bishop McGuinness | 2023 State OK . However, based on Warren’s skills alone, he’s earned his spot as the top quarterback in the 2024 class. We mentioned above how the 2023 class is absolutely loaded at the QB position and that the ’24 group is progressing quickly. Leading that charge is Warren. In the last month, Warren’s recruitment has started to pick up and we got a chance to see him in person at a team camp. He throws the ball incredibly well and is very accurate with his passes. He also has a good understanding of where he needs to go with the ball. McGuinness will have a very balanced offense this fall behind Warren and Taffe and we believe they’ll be one of the top teams in 5A once again.
Garret Wilson
Garret
Wilson
6'2" | 200 lbs | QB
Oklahoma Christian | 2024
State
OK
– Oklahoma Christian School
(Ranked #24 Overall – #2 QB)
A quarterback who brings some of the most experience into this fall is Garret Wilson Garret Wilson 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Oklahoma Christian | 2024 State OK with Oklahoma Christian School. Since starting last season and also seeing playing time as a freshman, Wilson appears to be ready to take the next step this fall with the Saints. We definitely like Wilson as a quarterback prospect and think there are plenty things to like about him. However, we are curious how he and this OCS offense will look after losing some big names from last season. Not to mention that we believe that Class 2A is arguably the most competitive class in Oklahoma. But the talent is there in Wilson as a passer and as he builds chemistry with some of the new OCS receivers, we think that the Saints will once again be a contender and Wilson will put up some impressive numbers. We’re looking forward to seeing the growth he shows from his sophomore to junior year this fall.
Clayton Creasey
Clayton
Creasey
6'1" | 195 lbs | QB
Jones | 2024
State
OK
– Jones
(Ranked #25 Overall – #3 QB)
Right behind Wilson on the overall rankings is Jones quarterback Clayton Creasey Clayton Creasey 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Jones | 2024 State OK . This was a tough ranking because Creasey spent last season as a running back for the Longhorns as they were set at the QB position with Carson May, who is now at Iowa and was the top QB in the state’s 2022 class. However, we watched Creasey throw last spring and again this year and he’s clearly ready to take that next step as the quarterback of the Longhorns. And this is a Jones program where the quarterbacks do well and are usually considered some of the best in the state. Creasey is the next in line for that conversation. Watching him again this spring, Creasey is very comfortable running the offense and throws the ball on an absolute rope. Despite losing the top quarterback prospect in the state, we don’t expect the Longhorns to take a step back on offense this fall.
Jackson Bergt
Jackson
Bergt
6'3" | 195 lbs | QB
Newcastle | 2024
State
OK
– Newcastle
(Ranked #29 Overall – #4 QB)
Coming in as the #4 QB in the class and right behind the last two QB’s is Jackson Bergt Jackson Bergt 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Newcastle | 2024 State OK from Newcastle. Bergt is right there with Wilson from OCS when it comes to experience coming into this season. And out of the five quarterbacks on this breakdown, Bergt might be the best when it comes to just passing the eye test. He absolutely looks the part physically and continues to get better every time we see him. We checked him out a couple times this offseason, whether it was team camp, 7v7 or at a showcase camp. He was always one of the more impressive quarterbacks that we watched throwing the ball. The biggest thing we’re waiting for is for it to translate to Friday nights. Newcastle has some good players returning and Bergt has plenty of experience. We want to see the Racers take that next step in Class 4A this fall and Bergt appears to be the guy to get that done.
Luke Milligan
Luke
Milligan
6'2" | 185 lbs | QB
Lincoln Christian | 2024
State
OK
– Lincoln Christian
(Ranked #43 Overall – #5 QB)
Lincoln Christian quarterback Luke Milligan Luke Milligan 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK finds himself in a similar situation to Creasey at Jones. This fall will be his first chance to start for the Lincoln Bulldogs at quarterback for a program that has produced some outstanding QB’s in the last decade. And he’s replacing one of the best players in the state in Max Brown from last year. However, one thing Milligan does have going for him is with Lincoln being dominant last season, Milligan saw plenty of time on the field, even though Lincoln was primarily running the ball in the second half of these blowouts. But Milligan can throw it and he’s very familiar with the offense. We watched the new Lincoln QB quite a bit this offseason and think that he will step in and make this Lincoln offense pretty explosive in the passing game. His ranking was tough as well since this will be his first fall as a starter but the confidence is there.
