is another example of a very experienced signal caller within this class. Bergt got on our radar as a freshman and he’s stayed on there ever since. One thing that impresses us about his game is the steady improvement that he showed over the last few seasons. And the team success mirrored that improvement as Newcastle became one of the better teams in Class 4A. And as Bergt gets ready to head to the next level, the Racers are a team to watch moving forward as Bergt has left them in a good position moving forward in 2024. He signed with Oklahoma Baptist.

has been a name that we’ve known about since the end of his freshman season. Bergt attended our very first camp back in the summer of 2021 and he’s shown steady improvement ever since. Last season, we were really impressed with his ability to dominate the ground game. The Racers didn’t ask Bergt to do too much in the passing game last season because he had quite the impact on the ground game. As a passer, the Newcastle quarterback would throw for nearly 1,500 yards but he also added well over 600 yards on the ground. The backfield duo of Bergt and Bolser is going to be one of the better 1-2 punches in Class 4A. They were outstanding last season and will be a big reason why the Racers have success in 2023.

Similar to Wilson at OCS, we have another quarterback who is a two-year starter and also had playing experience as a freshman. Newcastle quarterback

is a QB to keep an eye on moving forward as he’s made a solid jump from his sophomore to junior season. When you look at the stats, a lot of the numbers are comparable to what he did around this time last year. But the one thing that jumps off the page to us is the interception numbers. He’s taking care of the football now. He’s not trying to force it where it ends up costing the team a turnover. Then you look at the team success and the Racers are right there in the mix in Class 4A with a 7-1 record but they are in a brutally tough district. And Bergt is going to be tested over the next two weeks as Newcastle wraps up the regular season against Tuttle and Bethany, both of which have good defenses. We’ll find out a lot about Bergt over the next two weeks.
