We can’t help but wonder what could have been over the last three seasons. During the 2019 season,

terrorized opponents as running mates in the Millwood backfield. But Taffe moved over to Bishop McGuinness and still had a very successful career. Especially when you look at what he was able to do over the last two seasons with the Irish. Taffe committed to Lindenwood during his senior season but he recently reopened his recruitment prior to signing day this week. Taffe is an explosive runner and similar to a few other backs on this breakdown, he’s incredibly consistent and has no problems being a workhorse back.

While the other semifinal has some top running backs, this match-up isn’t missing out on talent at that position either. Bishop McGuinness senior running back

has been one of the better running back prospects in the state’s 2023 class since his freshman season. We’ve been really impressed with Taffe this season because he’s shown continued growth as a prospect and has shown the ability to be successful in a variety of ways on the offensive side of the ball. This year, Taffe has been a work horse at running back but he’s also become a huge threat in the passing game. And with McGuinness looking to be balanced on offense, that makes him incredibly important.

had a great game, getting it done on the ground and through the air. On the ground, he constantly fought through defenders to gain extra yards, as well as showing elusiveness by juking, stiff arming, or side-stepping defenders. He ended the game with 24 carries for 104 yards. Coweta made him earn every yard too, as they have several ranked defensive players. If he can eclipse 100 yards on the ground against Coweta, I believe that he can do it against any team in 5A in the state of Oklahoma. He showed why he is the #4 ranked running back in the state. Not only did he have a great game on the ground, he contributed with a 40 yard receiving touchdown, as well. He was flat out impressive and a treat to watch.

It seems like it’s been a very good couple years for running backs in Class 5A over the last few years and this season is no different. At Bishop McGuinness, one of the top running backs in the state is senior

, who is committed to play college football at Lindenwood. Taffe has been one of the best players in the state over the last few seasons and really has been a top prospect since his breakout season as a freshman at Millwood. Taffe is a dynamic running back that excels in the open field. But as he’s shown on a number of occasions, he can be an absolute workhorse if you need him to be. In their only loss of the season against Carl Albert, Taffe still shined against a tough and talented Carl Albert defense. Taffe carried the ball ten times on one possession alone.

has been on the radar since his freshman and sophomore seasons. We first saw Taffe as a freshman when he was at Millwood and he has become one of the best backs in the state over the last three seasons at Bishop McGuinness. The one time we saw Taffe in person was their only loss of the year as they fell to rival Carl Albert. But even in that game, Taffe was an absolute machine. McGuinness fed him the rock time after time and every time Taffe delivered. He had ten carries on their first drive alone. Taffe committed to Lindenwood in the last couple months and that’s a good get for them. They’re heading to the D1 level soon and Taffe has the potential to make an impact as they make that transition.

has been one of the more versatile backs in Oklahoma since his freshman season. On Friday night, he showed that he can be an absolute workhorse back and it didn’t take long to find that out. On their first possession, Taffe carried the ball ten times and he would finish with 195 yards on nearly 30 carries and he had two touchdowns on the night. He also led the team with three receptions and has proven to be reliable as a receiver out of the backfield. Carl Albert did not make things easy on Taffe. He had to work for everything he got Friday night. Only three of the carries were ten yards or more. He did have a 57-yard TD run.

Bishop McGuinness will welcome in reigning Class 4A champion Clinton on Friday night in a battle of top five teams in Class 5A and 4A respectively. The Irish offense had no problems putting up points in week zero as they beat up on Putnam City. They’ll look to continue that against a Clinton team that is still looking to build their own identity. Despite being defending state champs, Clinton lost a lot of production off last year’s team. That’s bad news, specifically with their defense as they go up against 2023 running back

. The star senior back didn’t have to do much in the win last week against Putnam City but he did show that he’s not just a standout back who can tote the rock. He also caught several passes and even threw a 50+ yard bomb in the win. Taffe is primed to have a really big game on Friday night and once again show why he’s one of the best running backs in the state’s 2023 class.
