<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>2025 Prospect Earns First Offers Before Playing In A Game</strong></span>
We’ve seen basketball prospects end up on the football field and become even bigger prospects there. But this one absolutely surprised us. Millwood 2025 standout [player_tooltip player_id="347111" first="Jaden" last="Nickens"] is already considered the best basketball prospect in the state’s 2025 class. At least he’s in the conversation with just a few other prospects and he was the first one in the class to receive a D1 offer. But Nickens recently joined Millwood’s football team and before he even steps in a game, he has already earned a few D1 offers.
UTSA was the first school to offer Nickens and then North Texas followed. We have no idea how to break down Nickens as a football prospect because we’ve never seen him put the pads on. I also run the Oklahoma site for Prep Hoops and as a basketball prospect, he’s one of the best in the state for his class. He’s going to be an outstanding player on the court over the next few seasons. But now we have to look at him as a football prospect as well.
It’s certainly going to be interesting to watch moving forward and whether or not Nickens turns into a prospect like 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="38777" first="Jacobe" last="Johnson"] at Mustang. Johnson is a top ten prospect in basketball and football. He’s been offered by schools for both sports. He recently went on a visit to Stanford as basketball and football prospect. Could Nickens be the next guy out of Oklahoma to be a true dual-sport prospect? He might be on that path already.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Adams Earns OU Offer</strong></span>
Owasso 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="45651" first="Cole" last="Adams"] has firmly established himself as one of the top 2023 prospects at wide receiver, not only in Oklahoma but in the nation. Earlier this year, Adams had a 72-hour stretch where he was offered by Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. That certainly catapulted him into the national light in terms of being a prospect. However, Adams and many fans within Oklahoma were wondering when he would get the call from the home state. That happened on Tuesday morning.
Shortly after the press conference where it was announced that Adams and his Owasso Rams would face Bixby in the 2022 season opener at TU’s Chapman Stadium, Adams tweeted out that he had been offered by Oklahoma. Adams is currently ranked as the 6th best prospect in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. Three of the five prospects ahead of him are already committed. Bixby tight end [player_tooltip player_id="55156" first="Luke" last="Hasz"] (Arkansas) Stillwater offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="50786" first="JaKobe" last="Sanders"] (Oklahoma State) and McAlester running back [player_tooltip player_id="91049" first="Erik" last="McCarty"] (Oklahoma) have already committed.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>First Offer For Top 2024 Wide Receiver</strong></span>
We’ve already written this offseason about Union 2024 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="110747" first="Jino" last="Boyd"] after watching him once again torch defenders while playing 7v7 with 918 Elite. And it was around this time last year that we first saw Boyd in person and thought that he would have a chance to be one of the top prospects in the state’s 2024 class. Well that’s exactly what he has turned into over the last year and in the last week, he received his first offer from a D1 program and it won’t be the last. New Mexico State has offered Boyd. They recently signed Union 2022 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38675" first="Will" last="Thomas"]. They’ve also put an importance on recruiting Oklahoma and that’s apparent by the time they’ve spent recruiting the state.
Boyd is currently ranked as the second overall prospect in the state’s 2024 class. Only behind Beggs running back [player_tooltip player_id="110739" first="Red" last="Martel"]. Boyd had an outstanding sophomore season, backing up the hype that we had around him coming into the year. He was Union’s leading receiver as a sophomore. And while Union was certainly a run-first offense and his numbers weren’t up there with some of the other receivers, that could possibly change this fall. We expect Union to be more of a balanced offense this fall and Boyd will have a chance to really explode and become more of a statewide name, similar to Adams at Owasso and our next prospect below.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Tease Announces His Top Ten Schools</strong></span>
Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas A&M and USC all made the cut last week when Booker T Washington 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="47959" first="Micah" last="Tease"] announced his top ten schools. Tease is one of the best wide receivers in Oklahoma and has been a top five overall prospect within the state’s 2023 class since we started ranking the class. However, it was around this time last year when Tease started getting interest from some of the nation’s top programs for defense and a position change might be in his future when it comes to the next level.
It’s hard to argue with college coaches who are at these big programs when they see Tease as more of a defensive prospect. But I’m standing firm in what I’ve seen from him over the last few seasons at Booker T Washington. He is an absolute playmaker at the wide receiver position. So we still have him listed as that. He very well could switch to the defensive side of the ball and be just as dynamic. But until then, we’ll keep him listed on the offensive side of the ball for now.
