After providing several years of great production in Hewitt-Trussville’s secondary, Phillips signed with Old Dominion! He’s talented enough to possibly see the field early in college. We’ll all have to wait and see, but I know I’m excited!

After a productive offseason on the recruiting trail, Philips ended up committing to Old Dominion this past week! I won’t be surprised to see him hit the field early on- I’m a big fan of Phillips and his versatility in the secondary- everyone, watch out for him this fall.

At 6’3 180, Phillips has great size at S and consistently provides blanket coverage on smaller targets downfield. Phillips plays with great concentration and instincts and is excellent at getting his hands on the ball, frequently flying in to break up passes and making some incredible interceptions off of tipped balls. Phillips is just as reliable in run defense- he’s highly athletic and has great pursuit, can fight off blocks, and makes some impressive tackles on the ball carrier down near the line of scrimmage. On offense and special teams, Phillips is terrific at utilizing his speed to create explosive plays, frequently finding the endzone and putting his team in great starting field position. Last fall Phillips made plays all over the field, ending his season with 52 total tackles (32 solo), one sack, and 3 PBUs, with 5 receptions for 51 yards and 3 TDs on offense. Phillips picked up an offer from UT Martin earlier this week and lists others from Troy and Austin Peay.
