Austin Butler | Prep Redzone Scout
One of the key receivers for the Wolves is Tylan “Scoot” Simpson but this year you may be seeing a lot of his game not just on offense but on defense as well as a defensive back. Now, Simpson is an outstanding athlete, and defensive back is something he is known for along with wide out. Though he played wide out all season last year, do not be shocked to see him making big plays at DB in 2026. He can do it all!

Tylan “Scoot” Simpson is heading into the 2026 season as one of the leaders of the receiving core at Rome. Last season he showed up big in big moments especially during their deep playoff run and this spring so far, he has picked up right where he left off. He has showcased during the two days so far that he has not only matured as a player but as a leader of the receivers. Simpson has been very crisp in his routes, hands have been very strong and his speed looks good. He has also looked really impressive at the defensive back position. Simpson isn’t new to staring at both wide out and defensive back, he has that great reputation playing both but this year, he could very well see defensive back which would be huge for the Wolves to have him making plays on both ends.

Tylan “Scoot” Simpson is someone I have been very high on for a long time and knowing what he has been capable of, he showcased that last year. I said during last year’s off-season that he was going to be a spectacular player for the Wolves in 2025. Whether you agreed or disagreed, Simpson proved exactly that! I have seen him work in person, seen him put in the work and seen the guys around him that helped him get better and better. Simpson showed up in big moments last season and that is a great segway to his junior year because now he is the guy, he will be one of the leaders of the pack in the receiving core. He will be a major impact player in 2026, and this will be his best year yet, believe me!

The talented prospect is one of the wide receivers in the state who has everything you could want, but the frame can be a red flag. Luckily for the talented prospect, he is one of the exceptions that is undeniable, as he will begin to earn the attention of schools across the country with the objective of gaining some explosive wide receivers. Simpson has all the speed you could want, but is as slippery as they get. If Simpson continues to develop his body to become a more physical and dangerous prospect within his first steps, he will become one of the better wide receivers in the class.

One talent that I have covered a long time now, Tylan “Scoot” Simpson is one of those players that I have had the pleasure to watch develop and he’s still developing. He has improved every single time I watch him he’s gotten better at something. Today after a successful showcase, he went into his teams’ indoor football field at Rome and worked on his craft. Talk about work ethic? That’s work ethic! He ran smooth and crisp routes today and showed how sure his hands are. “Scoot” is going to have a big. big year in 2026!

Tylan “Scoot” Simpson had a lot of breakout moments last year in his sophomore season. I would be cutting Simpson short on what he could do if I said he had a breakout season. Again, he had breakout moments that would be a breakout season for most but for Simpson, his breakout season will be this year. Simpson flashed amazing moments and especially in big games in the playoffs that show he will have a massive year in 2026. He is a go-to type of target and came up big on a consistent basis and made some major catches in big-time moments. His breakout year will be in 2026!

Tylan “Scoot” Simpson is one of the up-and-coming special talents at Rome. What Simpson did last season is simply show up big when his number was called. Simpson made big-time catches in critical moments during the deep playoff run for the Wolves and I would expect that x10 in 2026 as he enters his junior year. I look for Simpson to have a a big-time off-season.

Tylan “Scoot” Simpson is an outstanding talent who had a breakout type of year in 2025 as a sophomore next to two D1 wide outs. Simpson proved he could play around those guys and become the “Man” next year. Simpson has been a standout his entire football career and he has the ability to star as both wide out and defensive back. He has great hands, finds ways to get open and can simply make plays. He’s going to showcase this at our Winter Showcase this weekend.

Tylan “Scoot” Simpson is a pure playmaker and is a guy who gets open on this Rome offense very often. His ability to get open is natural and he has the hands to go along with it. His skill set has been big for this Rome offense in times needed and he is going to be what I believe in a lot of meaningful situations this Friday and his number will be called upon in curial moments. Simpson has earned that opportunity with gaining the experience and playing very good in his sophomore season so far. Do not be surprised to see him make a few big-time situational catches against this Houston County defense. Pure playmaker here!
