Barnes can play on the edge or at the second level but projects as a true defensive end in college and is one of the top pure edge prospects across the state that is stout against the run and pass. He has the frame and size to continue packing on weight and excels with his hand in the dirt while using his athleticism and sudden power to win at the point of attack. He shows a variety of power rush moves when bending the edge and collapses the pocket quickly while able to make plays behind the line and take on blockers to set the edge. He is a very balanced defensive end prospect against the pass and in the run game and a excellent open field tackler with good movement abilities in space that closes quickly. He is a no-brainer FBS/FCS range prospect with a high floor entering the next level.

Barnes had 67 tackles, 10 for a loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble for Crean Lutheran this season.
He transferred to Crean Lutheran from JSerra and beats guys with his speed off the edge. Barnes blows up pulling guards in the run game and is aggressive when stunting inside. He reads his tackles well and is patient when defending the run.
Oregon State offered Barnes in December.

Strong edge prospect that picked up his first offer from Idaho State at the start of May and has since added three more with Arkansas State, Nevada, and Colorado State coming in. He’s a plus athlete at 6’2” 230 lbs. Uses his speed, quickness, and bend to beat blockers and collapse the pocket off the edge. Strong at the POA, he plays with leverage and is able to initiate heavy contact and then disengage to free himself up and locate the ball. Showed he can fight through double teams while maintaining his positional leverage to contain the edge on outside runs. Does a good job keeping his shoulders square to the line to move laterally and make plays to the perimeter. Chases hard in pursuit and is an aggressive body tackler to the ground. Transferred from JSerra to Crean Lutheran to play out his junior season.
