Tompkins was cleaning up tackles on inside runs and did a great job shedding blockers at the second level. He moved well laterally and made some plays on screen passes and outside pass plays. Tompkins had some of the biggest hits of the game.

Tompkins was one of the leading tacklers in the county last season with 159 tackles in 10 games with 14 for a loss, two sacks and an interception.

He has good short-area quickness and is good avoiding blockers at the second level. When he does engage with a blocker, he takes blocks well and has a high motor. He has sharp instincts and is always around the ball.

Having a nose for the ball is always an attribute any linebacker wants to have. That is certainly the case for Tompkins who leads the state with 84 tackles through five games. He finds himself around the ball often and his ability to tackle stands out on film. Tompkins’ ability to change direction is impressive, and he is a big hitter with natural instincts.
