Matvay can play on either side of the ball in college but most of his damage as a Junior came from the tight end position lined up on the line or in the backfield. He is a devastating blocker that can kick out, finish downfield and gets underneath linebackers and edge defenders with finish abilities. He also shows strong hands, is not afraid to take a shot over the middle and can highpoint the ball and track from multiple angles. Due to his frame/size he should fit nicely on defense in college and plug right in as a second level guy and make a instant impact.

Matvay had five catches for 75 yards as a tight end last season for JSerra and had 10 tackles with two pass deflections on defense.
He only appeared in four games last season but showed promise as a pass rusher and tackler. Matvay closes to the ball quickly and reads his guards well int he run game. In pass coverage, he is solid in man coverage and has good instincts. He has the frame to add some more muscle this offseason and could be JSerra’s leading tackler if he stays healthy.
