Nick didn’t get a ton of action his way in the secondary in this one, so he found another way to impact the game that you may not expect: Special Teams. It is special when you have your Norte Dame commit flying down the field on punt return coverage. Nick was really impressive on multiple punt team coverage plays, making immediate tackles on at least two occasions and setting up the defense for success. There will be a time – such as this week against the pass-oriented Richmond Raiders – where Nick will have a chance to shine at his safety spot in a big way.
Nick just has some incredible instincts at the safety position overall. As a run defender, he is fearless in filling the alley from depth and tackles extremely well in space. As a pass defender, I’ve seen him live have some incredible reaction time in breaking on the ball in his assigned areas – flat-out picking it off or displaying the ability to leap off either foot and force pass break-ups. From a recruiting perspective, Nick has become a national recruit and he has had a ton of offers from Power 4 college football programs. Nick announced a Top 10 back in late December and is going through the visit process. We are excited to see where he ends up deciding to play on the next level!
Nick just recently released his Top 10 schools which include (in no order of preference) Duke, Norte Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Southern California, Wake Forest, Missouri, Indiana, and Wisconsin. If you follow his social media though, Nick has been making some strong indications about Virginia Tech, and rightfully so because his two brothers are now there playing together on the same team. Nick is a talented safety who can cover slot receivers and tight ends, as well as come up in the box and tackle well in run support.
Reddish really re-shaped his body in the offseason and you can tell by the early returns that it’s helped him in 2024. He plays a bit of corner, slot and safety, but he’s likely a safety at the next level, where he can play more zone coverage and diagnose defenses. The Independence defense has taken another step forward in 2024 and Reddish is a big reason for that improvement.
