Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Kevin was intriguing coming into this show as for a couple of different reasons. He didn’t have a ton of film from last season due to injury being one reason. Another though was his physical attributes – 6’4 with length and athleticism always attracts interest from college coaches, and Kevin honestly put on a show during the 1 on 1 period in the showcase. It was a real debate on who the defensive back MVP was because Kevin was breaking up multiple passes, showing quick feet and change of direction, and played with a ton of confidence. College coaches in attendance definitely took notice as well, and Kevin earned offers from Johnson C. Smith and Campbell University immediately after the showcase. There will be a lot more to come from him this season!

Powell has truly elite size and as a multi-sport athlete has the athleticism to succeed at multiple positions. I think I like him best as a freakishly long and athletic safety, but he could continue to develop as a receiver. He’ll likely continue to play on both sides of the ball. His length allowed him to pick off four passes last season.

Powell doesn’t look like a prototypical defensive back (He looks more like a small forward) his instincts are excellent. That trait has allowed him to have four interceptions through just three games this season. He’s long and displays good awareness in zone and the ability to mirror receivers in man. That makes him a unique challenge for offenses.
