It’s not often that you see a 6’5 DB that’s as smooth and fluid as Mason. I came away very impressed with what he was able to do against some of the twitchy receivers.
-Great ball skill. Contested everything and was able to gain PBUs more often than just about anyone
-Good change of direction and balance, which allowed him to explode out of his backpedal on the break
-Good football IQ, understands how to win reps in a variety of ways using all of his tools

I said it in a recent article, but I’ll say it again here: Mason’s work is starting to pay off. Compared to last year, Mason is bigger, faster, stronger, and much more fundamentally polished. Many prospects with Mason’s height and length struggle to be as naturally twitchy and fluid as, say, a 5’9″ slot receiver. Mason is getting there. From the weight room to a lot of agility training, he’s genuinely improved quite a bit recently. Still, as a DB, there’s some polish needed.
Knowing how much Mason has improved, and considering his size, I would expect Mason to earn quite a bit of D2 attention this offseason. I don’t make decisions for D2 programs, but if I were in a building, I’d do my homework on Mason.

Mason has been working hard on his craft for years now. I’m used to viewing Mason as a super high-upside yet very raw prospect. I hadn’t seen Mason in person in a while, and let me tell you, he’s clearly improved since the last time I saw him.
For one, he is slightly bigger. Not a huge jump, but Mason has gained a little muscle, which is a positive.
Second, Mason looks like a more fluid athlete. He did well in the testing portion, sporting above-average change of direction (COD) and explosiveness for his size. COD can still improve, and Mason had moments where he didn’t get out of his break fast enough. Though he does look much improved as a DB.
I hope to see Mason continue playing both ways. I really like him as a high-upside DB in college.

We’ve been following Mason’s game for a while now. My past evaluations still stand. He’s a tall, athletic football player with genuine upside.
As a downfield playmaker, he’s the same as I’m used to seeing. A burner when running straight-line downfield, but his change of direction, hands, and general receiver skills still need polishing. Though I am intrigued by some of his blocking highlights- he did a solid job this year of finding someone to block, and aiding his offense. As always, I’m looking forward to seeing Mason this offseason.

Mason has been super consistent with his work ethic. On his current trajectory, I’d expect D2s to consider offering by next offseason.
Athletically, Mason is solid, especially when you consider his height (verified)
40: 4.9
Shuttle: 4.77
Broad: 107
Vertical: 25.5
Solid stuff, but not quite at that D1 level. Additionally, Mason has been competing his butt off this offseason, at both DB and WR. All-around, Mason shows flashes, but is still underbaked. This coming season is an exceptional opportunity to improve his skills and put out tape that will hopefully turn heads.

Dude’s a sleeping giant. Athletic, long, but still a bit raw.
Thinking back to our Prep Redzone Camp in December, Mason’s talent was unquestioned. Wide catch radius, solid route runner, and a solid defender. Plus, he put up a great broad jump. Mason’s tape showcases some good plays, including a couple of instinctual plays in deep coverage. From an OAA Blue standpoint, Mason is a superstar.
The difference-maker in terms of recruiting is going to be speed and change of direction. It’s a little more difficult to be super twitchy at 6’4″, but the reward for getting over the hump will probably be D1 offers. Amazing size, average athlete in terms of testing numbers, and a player who could take off in the next year.
