About Lincoln
Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Lincoln got the primary share of the workload for the Pumas in this one, and that trust paid off well. Lincoln had over 100 yards on the ground to go with his touchdown run, and he showed some nice strength with the ball in his hands. On his short touchdown run, Lincoln ran through a couple of Chambers defenders at the goal line to get the job done. Lincoln was also able to show his trademark speed on a couple of outside zone plays that got him into spaces for some big runs.

Wise runs with strength and patience, consistently making defenders work to bring him down. The first tackler almost never got him to the ground alone. He capped off his strong performance with a 60-yard touchdown, showing he’s not just tough between the tackles but also has the speed to finish.

We have studied Lincoln a good bit this offseason, as my cohort Will Helms took a look at him for his Community Film Room series. Consequently, we jumped Lincoln up a good bit in our rankings update, and Lincoln backed that up with a strong performance at this showcase, showing good explosion off of his change of direction with the ball in his hands, and fluid movement during all three primary phases of the showcase. Lincoln will be an important piece of the Pumas’ offensive attack once again this season as they attempt to build on their 2nd round playoff appearance from last year.

Wise has excellent speed, evident both on the football field and baseball diamond. He’s a guy who could move further up our rankings with a bit more weight and a strong senior season. We like his physical abilities and think he could become even better with more experience at the running back position. The flashes are there, he just needs a bit more strength and more consistency.

Wise isn’t the biggest running back in the class, but he’s slippery and he’ll make defenders pay for sloppy tackling technique and bad angles. He does this by maintaining good pad level and taking smart angles himself. When he gets to the second level, he’s always aiming to get to open grass, a trait that’s less common than you’d think. We love that he keeps his legs churning, like in the clip starting at the 1:15 mark.

Wise is a guy we’ve had our eyes on for some time and he’s growing as a football player. An excellent athlete, he thrives in wrestling, baseball, and most recently football. Wise has great strength for his size, and possesses both short-area quickness and long speed. As he continues to gain more experience, he’s a guy to watch this fall.
