brings elite recovery speed and physical tools to the Don Bosco secondary. At 6’0”, 180 pounds, he’s a disciplined cover man who stays in phase with receivers and closes space in a flash. His ability to roam and read in a talent-rich defense gives him plenty of chances to make plays. If his ball production takes another step this fall, Phillips could find himself at the top of the interception leaderboard in New Jersey.

from Don Bosco has quickly become one of the hottest names on the camp circuit. The 2026 DB made a significant statement by earning Defensive MVP honors at the Syracuse camp, leading to his first Division I offer from the Orange.
What makes Phillips special is his elite acceleration, recovery speed, and ability to change direction without losing balance. Combine that with his size and instincts, and it’s no surprise Coach Fran Brown took notice. He’s one of the top pure athletes at defensive back in the state, and this summer is only raising his stock.
Great day a Syracuse University Football Camp Defensive MVP and after a great conversation with Coach Brown I am blessed to receive my first D1 offer to Syracuse University @dbpfootball @CuseFootball @FranBrownCuse #joaqnation pic.twitter.com/y4W73VASi6

has emerged as one of the most physical and versatile defensive backs in New Jersey. The Don Bosco standout has taken snaps at both safety and cornerback but played primarily on the outside last season—and thrived.
Phillips plays with an edge. He’s aggressive in the run game, willing to step up and make tackles, and has a knack for blowing up screens. His ability to read plays and react quickly stands out. One of his most impressive moments on film came when he abandoned his coverage to jump a route and snag an interception—an instinctual, high-level play.
He has room to add weight at 6-foot with a wiry frame, which could help him become an even more complete cover corner. He’s got the foot speed to stay with most receivers, but refining his technique will take his game to another level. His skill set brings to mind Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie—a player who can line up anywhere in the secondary and impact the game.

Joaquin Phillips a 6’1 cornerback who has a long frame which allows him to make plays on the football at outside corner. He has great movement skills laterally and down the field. The most impressive aspect of his ability in coverage is to not only be able to stay in receivers hip pockets across the field and down the field ,but his ablity to use length to create ball production. Phillips coverage will only get better over time and his upside should have defensive back enthusiast as to what he could ultimately look like.Where he shines with his ability to tackle. As an outside corner he’s not afraid to stick nose in the run game and make tough tackles through blocks. in addition he’s a difference maker in special team with his relentless motor and his ability to make tackles in space. Phillips is putting together a well rounded skillset as corner where he can make an impact in coverage and in the run game.

. Lining up at the cornerback position, Joaquin utilizes his athleticism to go toe to toe with any receiver he is matched up against. Joaquin is another defender that can stop on a dime and change directions quickly to move up field. What stands out the most is Joaquin’s dimensions. His reach gives him a greater catch radius than most receivers he will face.
A great size for a defensive back already, Joaquin is also able to deliver punishing blows to any runner heading his direction. He will only get more impressive as the seasons continue.

Off to perennial powerhouse Don Bosco Prep for high school ball, Phillips is going to be a very nice piece for the Ironmen. Right at the 6-foot, 165-pound mark with great hands and the ability to pick up nice chunks of yards both in the screen game and downfield. With his muscular build and length, I wouldn’t him out ending up as a safety in the long run. Listed as an Athlete on the gridiron, the scariest thing is that his best sport is baseball. He’s going to be a good one to watch in both sports, over the next four years.
