About Jake
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I am confident in my individual skills and in my role as a teammate. My gameplay style utilizes my speed, quickness, reliable hands, game knowledge, and non-stop hustle to take the top off a secondary, make plays across the short middle, and everything in between. My combo of skills has allowed me to make impact plays at WR, RB, DE, LB/edge rusher, and kick and punt returns.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I play wherever I can help my team the most. I'm an intense, relentless worker, and I love this game. I work with my Dad to understand what it takes to stay mentally disciplined, because that is the foundation for everything in this game. I can be quiet at times when I'm concentrating deeply, but my intensity shows up in other ways on the field.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I have received honor roll recognition for my grades in school, I received a virtue award, and I have received a service award/good deeds award for helping to serve food at homeless shelters.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I continue to work on my communication skills, and am confident in those skills. In 8th grade, I was named team captain and learned the basics of what it takes to be a team leader, while continuing to work towards always being a good teammate. Off the field, I have helped the homeless community by preparing meals, and help my team raise money.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
When I was 6, I spent almost a month in the ICU fighting severe flu and pneumonia. In total, I spent 3 months at OU Children's Hospital. When I got out, my parents helped me rebuild my strength, especially through sports, and I recovered much faster than doctors expected.
My family moved to Texas when I was 12, then back to Oklahoma when I was 12. The moves were hard, but I adapted each time.
What type of college are you looking for?
I'm looking for a good fit with the team culture, solid academics, and a program/coaches that focus on helping players develop into the best person and player they can be. My dreams are big, but there is more than one path to big dreams, and I hope for a program that helps me grow as a person, make friends for life, and gives me the best shot at reaching my dreams.
