After watching Norman North’s Byron Mason Byron Mason 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Norman North | 2027 State OK in person around this time last year, we’re not surprised that he emerged as one of the top offensive weapons in Class 6A-1 during the 2025 season. Mason is one of our favorite all purpose backs in the state. He is equally as impactful in the run game as he is as a pass catcher in the Norman North offense. He had some very special performances during his junior season and we are fired up to see what he does as an encore this season. Mason is one of several running backs in Class 6A-1 that bring so much to the football field and is a complete back that can beat defenses in a variety of ways.

This is the second straight ranking update that we’ve vaulted Norman North running back Byron Mason Byron Mason 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Norman North | 2027 State OK up the list. In the summer, he made a huge jump after we got to watch him in person in the spring. And this fall, he’s made another one, going up 17 spots, into the top 30 and starting to knock on the door of being the top RB in this class. Mason is an incredibly fun athlete to watch because he can do everything out of the backfield. You start with the running game and Mason has been very productive there. He’s also a huge threat for Norman North as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. He does all the little things well and that’s opened the door for him to make big plays on Fridays. Mason continues to impress us every time we see him.

Every spring, we have our camp tour and see plenty of schools and a ton of players. And every spring, there are a handful of players that we didn’t know much about heading in and we came away very impressed. Junior running back Byron Mason Byron Mason 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Norman North | 2027 State OK is one of those players for us. Mason was one of the best running backs we watched in the spring and he is primed for a monster junior season. It’s an exaggeration but it seemed like every time he touched the ball, he was a threat to go the distance and he was at least picking up 5-10 yards. We’re incredibly high on Mason moving forward and he should end up being one of the top running backs in 6A-1 this season.

Out of all the prospects in the latest ranking update, no prospect moved up as many spots as Norman North running back Byron Mason Byron Mason 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Norman North | 2027 State OK did this week. Mason jumped up 51 spots and a lot of it has to do with we finally got a chance to really watch him up close and in person and that in person evaluation matched what we’ve seen on film and in various clips. Mason is lightning quick when he’s coming out of the backfield. And he’s incredibly smooth when he’s cutting and it doesn’t take much of a hole in the line of scrimmage for Mason to squeeze through and break into the open field. We got a chance to watch the Norman North running back in person at a team camp and he consistently broke long run after long run. He certainly has the potential to be one of the breakout stars of this season and could move up even more.
