The clear No. 1 in Durham and Orange Counties, Powell recently earned his first college offer from East Carolina. A true guard who can kick out to tackle, Powell is as athletic as they come on the interior, and I’d love to see a shuttle time for the rising senior, as I think he could put up a fantastic number in that important drill. He’s a team leader and should have the inside track to an All-Conference selection in 2026.

Powell has become more balanced as a run blocker this year and the technical ability he’s showing as a junior guard is impressive. He has good strength, but the exciting trait is his ability to climb to the second level and square up smaller linebackers and safeties. He’s a strong puller and looks like an excellent guard prospect.

Powell’s film grabs attention right away. For a near 300-pound lineman, he moves with impressive quickness. He leads blocks like a fullback, clearing space and driving defenders off their feet at contact. Primarily lining up at guard, Powell consistently shows a strong combination of size, speed, and physicality in the trenches.

Ian showed good power and footwork during the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase. I thought Ian also moved well throughout the individual and agility circuit portion of the showcase as well. Ian displays a consistently strong work ethic and should start to see some recruiting interest come his way through the camp season.

Powell was on our watch list before this exercise, but as I went back to reevaluate him, I realized how strong his sophomore season was. He put on some really good weight and it showed last season, as he was violent as a puller and down-blocker. As long as he can maintain his footwork and quickness as he continues to add to his frame, he’s a guy who could be an excellent Division 1 prospect.

Powell is at his best while pulling and that’s something we love to see from guards. Jordan thrived with counter and power last season, largely because Powell’s athleticism and power were on full display. He got better as the season went on and is approaching the ideal height and weight for an interior guy. As a right guard, his leg drive and pad level stand out.
