Rather than being as boom or bust as he was in the past, he improved his consistency and accuracy to all fields, showcasing more throws, both over the middle and outside the numbers. Still, the biggest draw here is his dual-threat ability, as he runs a 4.5, and averaged over 10 yards per carry in each of the last two seasons.

Melton has a unique profile as an efficient passer who excels as a runner. In fact, he’s an elite rushing threat, and he’s throwing more this season, even as C.E. Jordan rolls. He takes care of the football (only nine total turnovers in two seasons at Jordan) and has improved his accuracy while still pushing the ball down the field. The rushing prowess is what will entice recruiters, though, as he has track speed and great change-of-direction.

After transferring in from Hillside, Melton surprised a lot of people last season with just how efficiently he ran Jordan’s offense. Plenty of folks though they’d be as run-heavy as anyone, but Melton gave the offense a legitimate passing threat, throwing for 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions. With the exception of three of the state’s heaviest hitters, Jordan ran through its competition last season en route to a 10-3 season, largely thanks to the dual0-threat abilities of Melton.
