Expert Analysis

– Aside from Colt Inman’s mind-blowing 4.5 forty, Frederick Caffey Jr. had the second-fastest 40 yard time of the 2028 backs at the New Jersey PRZ Next Middle School Combine with a 4.78 (hand time).
– It’s been a treat watching the evolution of Caffey Jr. in 2023-2024. He jumped on my radar this fall when I saw a couple clips of him and thought he looked quick, but needed to see more. He followed it up with a standout performance at the PRZ Next winter event this past January, before adding an exclamation point to his middle school career at the combine this past weekend.
– Continuing down the combine testing scores and times, he was a Top-2 or Top-3 performer in the 40 yard dash, shuttle, broad and L-Drill.
– The future St. Joe’s Regional (Montvale) Green Knight also took reps and flashed as a Wide Receiver, making his distinction as an Athlete ring true.

Frederick Caffey Jr. is a scat back who can change directions mid blink. His quick feet gets him out of trouble a lot and will leave you on his highlight tape if you don’t wrap up. Caffey Jr. also knows when, and when not to, turn on the jets. After the ball exchange with his quarterback, the next step is to not waster time getting positive yardage. I really like how he sorts through traffic without losing speed. Can be a threat underneath in the passing game and he doesn’t hesitate to through a shoulder into the middle of a defenders chest to keep his QB upright. Big potential from this Jersey kid.

is a prime example of why attending the right camps can be so important. I had seen a number of players from his Silk City team and had added them to the New Jersey 2028 Watchlist, but I had no idea who Caffey Jr. was until the PRZ Next Middle School Camp in New Jersey. A third running back that was in the running for overall position group MVP, he was absolutely electrifying to watch during drills out of the backfield. In my opinion, he was the best route-runner of all the running backs at the camp and had more shake than some of the top wide receivers. Speed and quickness is what stood out most about him, posting a 4.97 in the forty (tied for 3rd among backs) and a 4.40 in the shuttle (4th among backs). With his performance, you better believe he earned a spot on the 2028 New Jersey Watchlist when it’s updated in the spring.
