has certainly had a roller coaster career so far. He started for Bethany as a freshman and at the time, he was considered one of the top prospects in this class and he was really starting to pick up momentum as a prospect. Malaska would then miss most, if not all of his sophomore season and that momentum started to slow down a bit. The Bethany standout came back in 2024 and picked up like he hadn’t missed most of the year prior and once again, firmly established himself as one of the best guys at the position. Malaska is a cornerback that still has a high upside and after reminding everyone in 2024 who he is, we’re buying stock.

continues to be the top-rated cornerback in the state’s 2026 class. After missing the majority of his sophomore season with an injury, Malaska has gotten back to shutting down sides of the field and showing why he’s considered one of the better prospects in this class. And when we throw on the film from this season, we don’t see a player that looks like he missed almost a full a season. The natural instincts for him as a defender are still off the charts and the speed has never been a question. The thing that really jumped off the screen when we watched him this time around was the strength. He’s putting up some impressive numbers in the weight room and it’s showing on film because he has become a big hitter this fall.

is back after being injured for most of the 2023 season. He started for the Bronchos as a freshman and had a very strong 2022 season. He’s the younger brother of former Bethany standout and current Sooner Jocelyn Malaska and we remember talking to some of Bethany’s coaches about Evenson during his freshman season. They brought up how Evenson was ahead of where Jocelyn was at that stage of his career. We’re just fired up to see Evenson healthy and back on the field. And it would not surprise us at all if he ended up becoming the best cover corner in 4A football this fall.

jumps back into the top ten on this latest ranking update. He missed his sophomore season but Malaska has had an impressive offseason and has seen his recruitment really start to take off. He’s getting more opportunities and we have a feeling that he’ll see that recruitment absolutely explode this fall. With Malaska healthy, he’ll have a chance to showcase his talents as a very advanced cover corner. When he was a freshman, Bethany’s coaches were high on his play and how far ahead of the curve he was over most freshmen. Malaska seems primed for a big 2024 season.

when we did these latest ranking evaluations. He had a fantastic freshman season and immediately became one of the players to watch in this class moving forward. We already knew about Malaska coming into the 2022 season because of his older brother, who is now at Utah. But looking at his Hudl and some stats online, there is no new film from this season and no stats on the defensive side of the ball. So without knowing for sure, it would certainly appear that Malaska hasn’t played this fall. But despite that, he’s still one of the better prospects at his position.

at the cornerback position. And as we’ve mentioned in the past, Malaska first stood out as the younger brother of current Utah Ute Jocelyn Malaska. Just like his older brother, Evenson definitely has potential to end up at the D1 level and within the power five as long as he continues to work on his craft. He appears to be ahead of the game early on in his career and there’s a lot of excitement about his potential moving forward. Malaska is going to be one of the better athletes on the field and we’re curious how Bethany will use him in other areas as well. As an athlete, he could help out on offense as well as a skill position player.

we already have an opinion before we even throw on the tape. The last name stands out as older brother Jocelyn is now at Utah. So the genetics are at a D1 level. Then you throw on the tape and the tape matches what coaches have told us about the younger Malaska and that is that he’s more advanced at this stage in his career. Granted, Evenson began playing football at a younger age and was ready when he stepped into high school last fall. Another thing that really took us by surprise was the instincts he plays with on the field. It’s not very often that you see some of the plays that Malaska made from a freshman from an instinct perspective. He was outstanding in man to man coverage and appears to be one of, if not the best cover corners in the 2026 class. So right now, there isn’t much to critique about the younger Malaska because he is just a freshman. One question is his size but he still has three more years of varsity football so he should continue being one of the top 2026 guys moving forward.
