Austin Wright Austin Wright 6'4" | 248 lbs | EDGE/DL Roman Catholic | 2027 State PA is an explosive edge defender from Roman Catholic. He has the size (6’4″), strength, and athleticism you want from an edge defender. Wright is equally good against the run and the pass. His ability to use his hands is excellent, and he has what I call “Violet hands”, as he uses them well against offensive linemen. He is constantly chasing plays all over the field. His pass-rush moves are good as well. He uses his strength and his athleticism to make moves against offensive linemen. Wright is a talented edge defender who recently picked up an offer from Georgia State. He will have plenty more opportunities from Colleges.

6’4, 225 pounds. Self-reports a 3.5 GPA. Performed well at my colleague’s premier camp, speaking of Ed O’Brien’s All-State Preps Showcase. Up ten pounds since the off-season.

Four single-game cut-ups available on Hudl. Cardinal O’Hara, Cardinal Newman, DeMatha, SCH are just a handful of teams where Wright produced against. No mid-season tape, so I watched his two most recent games to get a better feel for his overall game. Hand in the dirt in a 3-3-5 front. Off the edge. First rep against O’Hara shows off instincts off the snap, length to break up a pass at the LOS. Great presser with momentum, can drive tackles back with a rush that takes a good path to QBs. An edge disruptor who does a surprisingly good job slowing down the rush attack, too. Slippery on inside stunts, can get skinny, penetration, and disruption are his calling card. Aligns in a Roman front that can throw a ton of different looks at you. Someone who was left unblocked off the edge against DeMatha, great discipline and diagnostic skills in these situations. High grade.
