Harris is quickly becoming one of my favorite prospects in the state. He shares the spotlight with his brother, but I’m starting to think Andrew may have the higher upside. He’s not overly tall, but he has great length and an elite motor. His speed-to-power is among the best in the country and his pass-rushing skill set is continuing to evolve.
Weddington defenders have to be versatile or risk sitting half of the game, regardless of talent. The defense is so multiple that players have to be comfortable in multiple positions. Harris embodies that as he’s arguably at his best on the inside, despite being under 230 pounds. He won’t play there in college, but his speed and raw power to beat blockers is impressive. Harris has one of the best motors in the state and has mastered the punch to jar the ball loose. Questions about a natural position fit limit his likelihood to immediately start at the college level, but his upside is tremendous, arguably even higher than his brother’s.
It is incredibly rare to have twin brothers be high level recruits playing the same position on the same team! Andrew will pair with his aforementioned brother to help key a talented Warriors defense that will be leaned on heavily as they work in a new quarterback on offense. Andrew can play inside at the tackle spot or on the end as an EDGE, but either way he is going to bring an elite ability to penetrate at the line of scrimmage and excellent speed for his size. With just as many Power 4 offers, there will be a ton of anticipation for Andrew’s decision for the next level when the time comes.
There is a theme here with our defensive linemen – they are highly covered by multiple Power 4 schools and Andrew is no exception. Along with his aforementioned brother, he also received a visit from Coach Belichick at North Carolina recently. Andrew also picked up his most recent offer from Michigan State and has a ton of schools to choose from as well. His elite size/speed combination along with excellent hand usage at the snap are a few reasons he makes this Junior Bowl team.
Harris usually lines up as a 3-4 defensive end or 4-3 defensive tackle, neither of which are likely to be his primary college position. He’s so strong though that he can make it work. Despite being outweighed significantly by most of the opposing offensive linemen he faces (especially on the interior) he more than simply holds up in the running game, frequently blowing plays up at the point of attack. Though he doesn’t often play on the outside, he racks up most of his pressures and sacks from the edge and flashes great hands at that position.
