The Rams were hosts to Bentonville, Broken Arrow, Sand Springs, Stillwater and Union. It was perhaps the most talented team camp that we’ve attended so far. Prep Redzone Oklahoma has coverage from several team camps all over the state. Now is a great time to check out the site and see who has been standing out over the last few days in Oklahoma. In this post, it’s part one as we take a look at just some of the many standouts from Friday’s action in Owasso. [player_tooltip player_id="349795" first="Auztin" last="Newell"] - 2023 Linebacker - Broken Arrow The only linebacker on part one of this team camp breakdown is Broken Arrow 2023 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="349795" first="Auztin" last="Newell"]. When we watched Broken Arrow on Friday morning, specifically the defense, Newell was without a doubt one of the top guys that caught our eye. From his spot at linebacker, Newell was flying all over the field and did a great job covering sideline to sideline. He was at his best when he was stepping up and dominating in run defense but there were plenty of opportunities to drop back in coverage against tight ends and some slot wide receivers. Newell has size, speed and it was pretty apparent that he loves to hit. He’s a ’23 linebacker to keep an eye on as we get closer to the start of the 2022 football season. [player_tooltip player_id="98181" first="Bennett" last="Ringleb"] - 2023 Offensive Lineman - Union Union had one of the top offensive lines and rushing attacks last year and it doesn’t appear that much is going to change as we head into the 2022 season. Leading the Union offensive line this fall will be 2023 lineman [player_tooltip player_id="98181" first="Bennett" last="Ringleb"]. He was a breakout player for the Redhawks last season but had his junior year cut short due to an injury. But on Friday, Ringleb was absolutely dominant along the line of scrimmage. Not only did he get our attention with his play in Owasso, but plenty of coaches took notice as well. Ringleb recently picked up an offer and that should only be the beginning as we move into the summer. Ringleb is a physical beast that was an absolute force in the run blocking game. He’s moved to left tackle and his blocking skills are only getting better. [player_tooltip player_id="45651" first="Cole" last="Adams"] - 2023 Wide Receiver - Owasso Over the last six months, many around Oklahoma have gotten more familiar with Owasso 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="45651" first="Cole" last="Adams"] as his recruitment has absolutely exploded. But those who have watched Owasso in the last few years know that he has been that guy since he was a freshman. And on Friday, he was without a doubt the best wide receiver on the field and it didn’t matter who Owasso was going against. Adams did a mix of everything for the Rams on offense. He would take screens or short passes and go to work after the catch. He would also beat opposing DB’s off the line and would torch them by going deep. Adams will definitely be the focal point of Owasso’s offense this fall as they lose several wide receivers to graduation. [player_tooltip player_id="57208" first="De’Marion" last="Thomas"] - 2023 Defensive Lineman - Union Union will have quite a bit of talent returning this fall and defensively, they look pretty stout already. And it all starts up front with one of the top defensive tackles in the state’s 2023 class with [player_tooltip player_id="57208" first="De’Marion" last="Thomas"]. The Union standout was one of the more dominating defensive lineman prospects at the team camp. He demanded attention from opposing offensive linemen and if he was in one on one situations, that was going to be a problem for the quarterback or the running game. Thomas absolutely dominates the middle of the line of scrimmage and it’ll be interesting to see how his recruitment goes over the next few months. He’s also shown the ability to be an offensive lineman but we have kept him on the defensive side of the ball for the time being. [player_tooltip player_id="219073" first="DJ" last="McKinney"] - 2023 Running Back - Union Friday was our first chance to see 2023 running back [player_tooltip player_id="219073" first="DJ" last="McKinney"] playing for Union after he moved into the district from Booker T Washington. And he did not disappoint with his new squad as he will fit in very nicely with the Redhawks. Union loses two playmakers at running back to graduation and McKinney will make sure that Union won’t be taking a step back in that department. On Friday, McKinney was so dynamic in the open field and once again, Union will have one of the top running backs in the state. A few years ago, it was AJ Green, last year, it was the duo of [player_tooltip player_id="67771" first="Antonio" last="Smith"] and [player_tooltip player_id="38703" first="Rovaughn" last="Banks"]. This year, McKinney has the chance to absolutely light up 6A-1 football and Union’s rushing attack will once again be fun to watch. [player_tooltip player_id="215206" first="Heston" last="Thompson"] - 2024 Wide Receiver - Stillwater Stillwater is going to have quite a bit of firepower when the 2022 season opens up. One of the breakout stars from last year were the Thompson twins Heston and Holden. On Friday, it was [player_tooltip player_id="215206" first="Heston" last="Thompson"] who could not be stopped at the wide receiver position and gave quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="157517" first="Gage" last="Gundy"] a reliable threat at the receiver position. Thompson runs good routes and just knows how to get open. He doesn’t have the size to get an advantage on opposing defensive backs but with good route running and sure hands, Thompson is going to be a problem for opponents this fall. Thompson showcased those skills on Friday with making catches running a variety of routes. The best catch came on a jump ball at the goal line where he was able to beat his man and get into the end zone. [player_tooltip player_id="110747" first="Jino" last="Boyd"] - 2024 Wide Receiver - Union We go from one 2024 wide receiver to another and this one is one of the best in Oklahoma today. Union wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="110747" first="Jino" last="Boyd"] enjoyed a breakout season last year, where he led the Redhawks in receiving as a sophomore. Boyd is a dynamic playmaker who we currently have ranked as the #2 overall prospect in the state’s 2024 class. We think that he is that explosive and is just as much of a threat taking a short pass the distance or beating a defense deep on a go route. Boyd isn’t the biggest wide receiver but that wasn’t a problem on Friday as he torched several different defenses and several different looks that they were giving him. Last year was just the beginning for Boyd and we expect him to come back and have an even better junior season. [player_tooltip player_id="349796" first="Josh" last="Ford"] - 2024 Tight End - Stillwater While the Owasso team camp was absolutely filled with talent from several different teams, a lot of that talent consisted of players who were already marquee prospects. But that didn’t mean we didn’t see a few new faces that not only got on our radar, but they should be names to watch moving forward. One of those new faces was Stillwater 2024 tight end [player_tooltip player_id="349796" first="Josh" last="Ford"]. Stillwater has some dudes on the offensive side of the ball but one of the guys that we hadn’t heard of before Friday was Ford. The Stillwater tight end immediately passed the eye test and it was obvious that he would be a problem for opponents physically. Ford had several moments where he used his size to get a significant advantage. He’s a ’24 tight end to keep an eye on. [player_tooltip player_id="38821" first="Mason" last="Willingham"] - 2023 Quarterback - Owasso The only quarterback on this breakdown is Owasso 2023 QB [player_tooltip player_id="38821" first="Mason" last="Willingham"]. The 2023 QB started for two years at Skiatook before moving to Owasso last season. Willingham would eventually win the starting job with the Rams and would finish out the season as QB1. Willingham will benefit this fall from having a wide receiver like [player_tooltip player_id="45651" first="Cole" last="Adams"] and then 2023 running back [player_tooltip player_id="38786" first="Emery" last="Neeley"], who sat out of the team camp. Willingham has a strong arm but he’s also just as dangerous in the run game and could tuck it and take off in the blink of an eye. Willingham’s ability to beat defenses with his arm as well as his leg will allow the Rams to get very creative with how they use him on offense. The running dynamic just adds another thing for defenses to worry about.
